EXCERPT from Columbus Dispatch regarding workforce in Ohio nurseries is 75% latino:
The growth in the number of Latino employees is "real simple," said Jerry Fultz, general manager of Acorn Farms, a 700-acre wholesale business in Galena.
"Our local labor force isn't able to supply us with the workers," Fultz said. About 90 of Acorn's 158 employees are Latino.
"It's pretty well-documented that a lot of jobs in the nursery and landscape industry go unfilled by American laborers," said Bill Stalter, director of the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association. It's become more pressing as nursery sales have grown, Stalter said.
The study found that 45 percent of those surveyed make between $6 and $7.99 per hour. Another 33 percent make $8 to $9.99 per hour.
Latinos are taking the jobs because "it's an entry-level-type job; it's not very well- paid," said Beatriz Maya, director of Midwest operations for the Farm Labor Organizing Committee of the AFL-CIO, based in Toledo.

Satan, if you read the article, it states that the current labor force cannot fill the jobs without the Latinos. What does that imply?

Wow folks- this question proves you read what you want it to say instead of what it says. I, or the article, never even mentioned whether the immigrants were illegal or not. This had nothing to do with illegal or legal...

Yes, because they are the ones that provide the cheap labor the USA needs. I don't think that Americans are willing to work $6-$7.99 an hour by working on nursery or landscaping. And also, Latinos are the majority of people that are immigrating here, so yes, we do need them.

I wouldn't say that they have to be Latino immigrants but regardless they need to be LEGAL immigrants. Regarding the hourly wage, when you consider the assistance programs such as free health care, WIC, aid to families with dependent children, subsidized living and all of the other social programs that these low income workers (immigrant or not), and then figure out what the costs are, add that as salary you come up with a figure that is closer to $25 to $30 per hour, and they do not have to pay any income tax, yes they do pay social security tax and Medicare (if they are legal) and sales tax when they purchase items but all of the biggest expenses are totally free. Pretty much they get between $6 to $10 per hour for spending money.
I do not really believe that Latino workers are NECESSARY
to anyone other than the people that hire them to keep their labor costs low and push all of other expenses off on to the citizens.
Once again, if they are legal, I don't mind. Just don't try to make this a selling point for illegal immigration.

No we don't need them. (illegals that is)
"According to a new survey by the Pew Hispanic Center, illegals make up 24 percent of workers in agriculture, 17 percent in cleaning, 14 percent in construction, and 12 percent in food production. So 86 percent of construction workers, for instance, are either legal immigrants or Americans, despite the fact that this is one of the alleged categories of untouchable jobs."
I have no doubt these numbers aren't any different in the landscaping business.
As for what your article implies, it implies that the person making these statements is full of xxxx. You can fill in the blank with what ever word you feel appropriate.
I'm from TOLEDO, I know for a FACT that there is an AMPLE WORKFORCE HERE.
Try again.

Ah I just noticed that the article just says Latino, so why are you posting this in immigration? Toledo is the home to a large population of Mexican Americans. And they speak English. Oh and one last thing, they hate illegals more than anyone I know.

Shame, shame shame. What the hell did we do many years ago without them. The jobs seemed to be just fine until the American rich man wanted to make big bucks and offered cheap labor to whomever fled the boarder.
Be real the average American can barely survive off of $6-$9.99 per hour. Oh, unless we want to live with 15 other people in a 2 bedroom apartment and eat corn and beans.

How is this a good deal?
Illegal Aliens---Immigrants are LEGAL residents/citizens of a country.
Anyway....Paco takes the Nursery/Landscape job for $7.99 an hr. He works some OT but his low wages combined with the Mrs at home with their 3 children qualify them for Social Services---Welfare, Education, WIC.......Who pays for all that WE do! So Paco's a net loss as most other Illegal Aliens and don't give me they pay taxes. They pay sales tax maybe.......
$80B is what the US Government spends on the "Cheap Labor" funded by the wallets of Legal US Citizens and Residents.

In the "Conservatives need to tell the truth about immigration-- to themselves!"
states " There is one harsh reality: if the American people want to stop illegal immigration, they have to stop buying the goods and services produced by illegal immigrants. So, what would we have to stop doing?
Stop buying fresh fruits and vegetables.
Stop patronizing half of the restaurants in the country.
Stop buying new homes.
Stop buying chicken at the supermarket.
Don"t buy any clothing manufactured in the United States.
Don"t use landscaping or lawn services.
Stop putting out your garbage for collection; you need to take it to the landfill yourself.
And the list is hardly exhaustive!
"If the star ship Enterprise suddenly appeared in orbit, and Mr Spock was able to use ship's sensors to locate every illegal in the country, and Mr Scott was able to instantly transport them all out of the country and back to Mexico on Monday, our economy would start a quick collapse on Tuesday."
That was written by conservatives,
There it is short but sweet.

Immigrants from any country are what has made our country great! The positive things they bring, knowledge, skills, culture, not least of all the food, the wonderful foods from everywhere! Immigration is wonderful. How ever I suspect what you were really asking is do we need people sneaking over our borders, breaking our laws and making demands. Hell no! We have enough criminals of our own. All Illegals need to be deported. The high cost of deporting them would be offset by not having to give them free education, free medical....... They take much more from this country than they give....why do you think they break our laws to be here? To pay taxes? To pay for medical insurance? To obey our laws? Please!

Well, most of the hotels would have to pay more than minimum wage to clean the toilets and make the beds then. These are not just Latinos, they are illegal aliens. Get the term right. They are here in the U.S. and they should not be here. As a taxpayer, I'm sick of paying for their health care, anchor babies, housing, food stamps and anything else they can steal from the American taxpayers.

The question is; Are Latino immigrants necessary to keep the U.S. up and running?
The answer simply put is No! We dont need law breakers sneaking into out country steal our jobs, our medical care, our childrens education, I dont have to go on, I think you already know the truth.
Stop asking questions and giving the untruthful answer that you want to hear.
