Notwithstanding the humorous response of Jedi Master (yes, that was definitely funny, thanks for the laugh, Jedi), and despite Primoa1970's need to use this as an opportunity to comment negatively about Witnesses - which has absolutely nothing to do with the question), God responded by saying what is more accurately represented as I Shall Prove To Be. And it does not match the phrase of Jesus at John 8:58.

This does not mean however that Moses did not know the name of God. All Hebrews knew God's name. The very name of Moses' mother incorporates the Divine Name.

The best translation of this is: "I am what I do"...He is a God of action. And He needed Moses to help Him come to a fuller consciousness of exactly who He is. Today, He still needs women and men to forge ahead with His plans of moral, ethical and spiritual maturation of this species.

..."so I can tell people the Name of who sent me"....is totally reasonable and understandable. The hebrews failed to exterminate the caannites and other fertility cults and had assimilated their ways, and were "dead in trespasses and sins". Moses was 'chosen' to extricate them from the egyptians and to teach them God's ways and laws.

What God said to Moses was " my name is Yahweh" the Hebrew name of God,
In the ancient primitive languages of the middle east, such as ancient Hebrew, the Word "Yahweh" translates to "I be" or "I am".

Hmmm. "I AM" suggests to me that God practices Buddhism... Which one would expect, since God is the author of all truth.

Added: Actually, that also reminds me of the Hindu belief that we all have divinity within us...

We are all children of God - "joint heirs with Christ"... therefore, we all have divine potential.

Christ has reached that potential already. He is I AM. He is One with God.

Islam also believes that we are the family of God, and that Jesus is our brother... If we are God's children... that makes us inheritors of divinity... If we allow ourselves to grow up, that is.

Yes it's true....

And Jesus Christ also called Himself "I AM" in John 8:58. We know this as the tetragrammaton....or the unspeakable name of Yahweh.
How anyone could ever deny the Deity of Christ after a statement like that is beyond me

I see....so you believe the words of a person who wandered in the desert, for days on end, without water or food, all alone. He then sees a "burning bush" and talks to God. Tell you what, you walk long enough in the desert with no rest or food or water, you're gonna see "God" too.

So you believe the words that come from a purported 800 year old man? I hardly believe an 80 year old these days.
