By a weight lift, I assume you mean sinker. The easiest method is simply to tie the sinker onto the bottom of the line, and placed the hook about 12" over it. If you are deep sea fishing on the Atlantic, sometimes you need up to 16 oz. of weight to hold bottom in 300 feet of water. Once again the sinker goes on the bottom of the fishing line.
