"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

My concerns are not about if an illegal alien should be allowed to serve in exchange for citizenship, but rather is our military safe by allowing foreigners to serve. Could they turn against the US during combat or become informants to the enemy?
Again, thank you sincerely to all of our brave Military, past and present, legal or illegal. Without you, we would not have a United States with the freedoms we enjoy today.

Department of Defense - INSTRUCTION
NUMBER 5500.14
January 4, 2006
http://www.fas.org/irp/doddir/dod/i5500_14.pdf
SUBJECT: Naturalization of Aliens Serving in the Armed Forces of the United States and of Alien Spouses and/or Alien Adopted Children of Military and Civilian Personnel Ordered Overseas.
3.1. Permanent Residence Alien. An alien admitted into the United States under an immigration visa for permanent residence; or an alien, who, after admission without an immigrant visa, has had his or her status adjusted as an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
So unless I see laws that say otherwise, Legal Aliens are allowed to serve, but Illegal Aliens are not. To clarify, those who have permission to enter the US are eligible to serve in the military as long as they have not committed any crimes in the US.
Wouldn't this be a great reason for all illegals to self deport and return the the US legally for the opportunity to become citizens of the US

Thank you for clarifying the difference between foreigner and illegal alien. There is definitely a huge difference.

You seem to be using the term "illegal alien" when you mean "non-citizen".
An illegal alien is someone who is not in compliance with federal immigration laws. Any alien serving as an active member of the US military is automatically in compliance with US immigration laws.
And anyone can turn against the US -- regardless of whether they are citizens or not, or were born here or not. Just look at all the US citizens who are serial killers, or the Unibomber, or the Oklahoma city bombhing, or other attacks by domestic terrorists.
Being a US citizen or legal resident alien doesn't mean you won't commit any crimes, and it's certainly not an indication that you'll actually support and defend the constitution. Just look at many of our elected officials.

The point is moot.
It's less a matter of the U.S. military ACCEPTING illegal aliens, than it is QUALIFYING for the U.S. military.
I was a military recruiter in near Houston, Texas (Currently a retired Chief Petty Officer). Passing the ASVAB (Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery) test is a requirement for entrance into any branch of the military. We tested thousands of minorities monthly, and few were able to pass the test.
And these were LEGAL minorities. People that recently learned English have about a snowballs chance in hel* of passing the ASVAB test.
Ex-recruiters, let's hear from you. You can verify what I am saying.

Only US citizens and Permanent Residents are allowed to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States. Illegal aliens are not wanted nor are they needed.

You cannot enlist in the U.S. military, even if you qualify otherwise unless you are a U.S. citizen, or are a resident alien. (GREEN CARD HOLDER).
As was said, it's not a matter of accepting them, it's a matter of them qualifying. Not everybody qualifies for the military. You have to qualify mentally, morally, and physically.
Mentally-you have to pass the ASVAB test.
Morally-criminal background check
Physically-Have to pass comprehensive physical examination.
There are other qualifications, but these are the three main areas.

Since the beginning of our nation in the 18th century, foreigners have always served in our armed services. Foreigners served in the Mexican American war, the Spanish American war, the War with Tripoli, etc. Consistently 5-8% of our military has always been made up of foreigners.

I don't believe they can enter service without the correct identification. Have some illegals entered the service with bogus papers? Probably, but I personally wouldn't trust someone who has flaunted our laws to stand up and defend our country.

No. I share the same concerns about patriotism. I don't think I'd like knowing that an illegal supposedly had my back!
