No testing on general knowledge in my time. There are other ways for schools to find that out anyway- my school asked me what I did for fun in an interview and they seemed impressed when I told them I read a lot of nonfiction relating to current events, social issues, religion, science and medicine.
I recommend (if you can) using MCAT prep books while you are taking the prereq courses: that way you know you are getting the same material everyone else is and are familiar with the test format.

It is known as MCAT (Medical College Admission Test). It is currently a computer-based standardized examination using "Thomson Prometric" centers.

It has 4 parts:
>>1.Physical Sciences (PS)*
>>2.Verbal Reasoning (VR)*
>>3.Biological Sciences (BS)*
>>4.Writing Sample (WS)**
*1-3 is in multiple-choice format;
**4 consists of two short essays typed into the computer.

There are many available review materials and books in preparation of attending the exams. There are many test prep centers offering review courses as well. You may know the details of such exams by visiting their official website:

Do they no longer test general knowledge? I remember the sections that Lani enumerated, but 45+ years ago I recall answering MCAT questions on Marx and Nietsche, Mozart and Jelly Roll Morton, and a few impressionist painters that I never heard of.

MCAT. Never taken it because I did not want to go to med school, but you should look into taking a class or getting a prep book to study.

family doctor's experience-

it is called the MCAT, and you just do practice tests from a variety of sources because you can't predict the MCAT
