Are you really so ignorant that you think that you're not, or are you just so selfish that you don't care whose health you're endangering as long as you can have a smoke wherever you want?

I have no problem not smoking around people who don't smoke. What I have a problem with is the idea that because you don't smoke your rights are above mine because i do. That's what i have a problem with. No one gave the option for restaurants or bars or other public places to be smoker's only places no one gave us that chance but your right to not have smoking anywhere public makes you more important than me. No matter if it is not healthy. Since you are a patriot you should know that to take away peoples rights no matter how big or small, is not right. I have no rights any more outside my home, and i pay the taxes just like any other and I pay MORE because i smoke, that's fine but you give me no rights when i walk out my door.

How very American of you!!
I love my country,
just not to fond of most of the people who want to take away MY rights. You have yours, but not me!

What about people who drink and drive? That is far more dangerous than standing beside a smoker for five minutes. Most public smoking has been banned for health reasons. I am a smoker and I abide by this when I am in public. However, in an outdoor situation, you have the option of moving if the smoking offends you. I would like to point out an experience I had this summer....I was at an amusement park, smoking in a designated outdoor smoking post and was rudely asked to smoke somewhere else. When I pointed out I was in one of the handful of designated smoking areas, the person made a nasty remark and left. Respect is a two way street.

I'm a smoker, not a moron. I smoke in the privacy of my own home- never in public- as smoking is banned in most places, and I respect people's right to breathe fresh air. You seem to be demonizing smokers, not the other way round. Smoking is bad for my health, but I accept that, and chose to continue. Ignorant, perhaps, but MY choice.

All scientific study shows second hand smoke can cause damage but it takes LONG exposure...you sniffing a cigerette does not justify you walking up to a smoker and basically flipping your lid about "the dangers to society" when we all know you could not care less about society....you just wanna preach and act like you are the end all be all of creation.
First it was no smoking in workplaces and food establishments, now people want to ban people from smoking around kids..even if it is their own kid and own car! Soon we will have a no smoking within 3,000,000 miles of any civilized land or peson policy....talk about overkill.

btw I am not a smoker and while i may not allow smoking in my home I have no right to harrass someone for doing it outside..it's freedom and free choice.....I will take those gladly over that of a medical police state.

PS> I want smoking back in bars....it covered up the smells people made when sat around drinking beer for hours and I assure you that those smells are FAR more dangerous to a person's health then smoke.

Hmm...No matter where you go in the world you will be breathing in something harmful. 2nd hand smoke has not been proven to cause health problems or been proven not to.
It's not that smokers don't care about others health, most of them would put out a smoke if you asked them politely without jumping to harsh words such as "ignorant" and "selfish". Anything and everything you do all day is endangering your health. Smoking, drinking, driving, eating, conversing, working...the list is endless. Really living on this planet is a health risk in todays society. I admit I am a daily smoker but I rarely smoke around those who do not like it. I have a respect for others that obviously some that you encounter do not. I apologize that your around such 'selfishness'. If I am ever smoking around you just let me know it bothers you and I will put it out. =]

anyone notice all the smokers are getting thumbs down and all the non-smokers are getting thumbs up? ha this fool asks us a question but doesn't ever care to hear it...i thought my answer was very well said.

I don't.
I'm a smoker and I'm very considerate about where I smoke.
Health issues aside, I quit once and I know how bad it smells to a non-smoker so I always keep that in mind.
I smoke in my car, in the designated area at work and I don't even smoke in my house. I go outside.

I wish your question was worded differently. You make it sound like all smokers 'demonize' people.

Because smokers are selfish people! They do not care if you suffer from their smoke as long as they get their fix. Have you ever sit and watched a smoker? What do you see all around them? Ashes, cigarette butts, cigarette package wrappings and plastic wrap from the outside of the package and they are too lazy to pick it up, they just wait for someone to pick it up for them! If you are sitting on a bench enjoying the outdoors and they sit down next to you, first thing they'll do is pull out a cigarette and light it without asking if you mind. I just pick up my vinegar sprayer and spray their cigarette to make it taste so good for them. LOL

I just love it when a smoker says "Hey I have a right to smoke", but I then say to them, "Where in the Constitution does it say you have a right to smoke?", I tell them that yeah they do have rights, but not to smoke but to the pursuit of happiness.

Because smokers all know the health risks to themselves. The hype about the dangers of second hand smoke is a myth. The results used to 'prove' second hand smoke was fabricated even before the study was complete, the courts declared it invalid many years ago, but people believe what they want. You get more deadly toxins from passing cars as you walk down the sidewalk, but sheeple want to accept whatever fabricated garbage they are told, rather than taking the time to research the matter and draw their own conclusions.

I'll tell you what's selfish, it's selfish to blame your asthma on us, even though you've had it from birth. It's selfish to tell me what I can and can't do just because it irritates you. It's selfish to now say second hand smoking is the culprit of everything that is wrong in your life, from your allergy to ragweed to the 911 attacks. We are just another scape goat in this country. Try attacking the factories for their pollutions and the real reason your nose runs or go by more Kleenex and move to a different location if my smoking bothers you. I was here first.

The idea that smokers are endangering the health of anyone but themselves is simply obsurd. There is more danger of breathing in the exhaust from your SUV. We "demonize" people because you are stepping on our rights. Are YOU so selfish that you can not accept that we have the right to smoke if we wish? I agree, there needs to be some level of respect for non-smokers. I wll not smoke in a restaurant, or someone's home or car that is a non-smoker, or even in my own car if I am traveling with a non-smoker.

I have been verbally accosted by complete strangers for minding my own business - it seems the non-smokers have demonized the smokers first. Are you so ignorant to think that you can attack someone's rights without having them respond?
