Where did your knowledge about Islam come from??

Do you feel that the source of your knowledge is important?? or any source would do??

I got some interesting answers, but how about this one:

How about you take all the anti-Islamic website, take notes, and then go to a mosque and ask them about them??

I'm so glad you suggested that! That's what I did before I reverted to Islam. I took my notes from the bible and christian sites and books, and from the Quran and muslim sites and books and went to a priest, then a pastor. When they couldn't make 1 plus 1 come to 1 and turned it into three, (etc) I took them to a mosque, to a Imaam and to a Moulana (a "church leader" and a priest alternatively).

The answers I received tipped the scales for me, and I reverted to Islam. It does not mean ALL the answers are answered, because Islam itself says ; 'search for knowledge, even if you have to go to the ends of the world to find it."

So Islam is about finding answers, finding peace, questioning and seeking, and all within the love of Allah and the peace of the Ummah. It works for me.

I was born and brought up a muslim so my knowledge came from my parents and grandparents at first and this was never heavy knowledge my grandparents would tell me and teach me how to read the quran and what it means, and my parents would just tell me the basics like only eat halal meat don't go out with boys respect you're elders etc.

It wasn't untill I was at the age of about 11 that I went and learnt properly about my religion, after this muslim girl at school scared the crap out of me by telling me a load of horrible stuff such as the end of the worlds coming, you're gonna die and you're gonna go to hell, so considering i didn't know anything about my religion except for the basics and i was only 11 yrs old at the time i freaked even after both my grandparents and parents assured me that the girl was talking a load of nonsense and none of what she said was true, it wasn't enough for me so that was when I read the english translation to the quran which was given to my grandparents by the local mosque, after that i began reading loads of books on the religion such as pearls of the hadith, death and the life after in islam, islam for dummies, a translation of the quran which had been translated by someone else and a book called the importance of women and womens rights in islam. After reading all of these I came to my own conclusion which is My religion is everything my grandparents and parents told me it was and I was proud of it, and yes i think these sources to be reliable.

I learned about Islam because all my co-workers were Muslim. I started asking them questions, then we started listening to the Qu'ran together after work, I read the English translation*, and I went to their mass.
I learned about the begining of Islam, about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), about the Five Pillars, etc...
I think it is a great religion and a very peaceful one. It is a pity that so many Americans think Islam is a violent religion because of the small number of radicals there are in the world.
I am open to learning about religion. I think everyone should know at least something about every religion.
*There is a website that mails you a Qu'ran in any language you chose for free: http://www.freekoran.com/form.php

My knowledge comes from my experience + reading. I was born a Muslim, & live in the Gulf which is a Muslim community & society. Have studied Islam since first grade. Also, we have many imams & mullas here who answer all our questions whenever we have a doubt about anything. I also read many Islamic books and listen to many conferences whether in the radio, purchase them on tapes & CDs or even on TV. Also, reading the 'Qur'an so many times gives you so many knowledge you never thought of.

To gain Knowledge is something like a work a construction, you complete a stage, will get the knowledge of the next one.
You lay a brick, the place for next brick will form, just you need a firm determination and a strong will. Allah helps and creates different sources, we can't imagine by our self.
Allah swt. is "Musabbab al Asbaab", seek help of Allah and do your best efforts.

Any authentic and verifiable source should do.Islam is a most advanced religion for
it's antiquity but the worst in it's practice. This religion has been hijacked by clerics[mullahs and maulavis] and extreme elements, who not only are misusing it for their own selfish ends but also destabilizing peace in the world.
