I have heard so many people say that the LDS church (Mormons) should rethink their "racist policies" but they fail to tell us , WHAT racist policies? The ONLY thing I can think would be not giving the priesthood to blacks until 1978, but we don't have racist POLICIES. If we were, then there wouldn't people, intelligent people, of so many different races, in our church.

MrPeepers, despite what PAST leaders said, THE CHURCH did not promote racism. It's so sad that there are, first of all, more leaders in our church who never even came CLOSE to being racist, prophets who practically BEGGED God to be the one to open the priesthood to all worthy male members.
Second, THE CHURCH cannot retract wha others have said.
Find me ONE quote by any past leader that clearly said "Avoid blacks like the plague".
Finally, people also ignore the part where McConkie, in 1978, said forget what I have said in the past, or what Brigham Young or any other past leader has said, we spoke without the light and knowledge of Christ.
Racists are racists, no matter what anyone says, and they will find whatever excuse they can to justify their fear and/or hatred of other races. Just as people hate our church, and will come up with any reason to justify that hatred.
"I know what I know and refuse to be sidetracked by the facts."

Once again you are ignoring the statements made by APOSTLES and PROPHETS concerning the status of African Americans the the church HAS NOT apologized for or retracted officially.
You seem to think your generation is the only one who knows anything, and forget that there are generations of mormons alive who remember very clearly what McConkie, Benson, and the rest of the mormon bigotry said and wrote. If it came out of the mouths of the General Authorities, it was GOSPEL. I remember, my parents remember, and my grandparents extolled the virtues of segregation.
It exists and it continues whether or not you like it. The church painted itself into this corner, and once they admit to another error in 'doctrine,' this should close the door on a sordid part of American history. Maybe even mormonism...

Seriously people. To Desiree: I'm sorry you feel that way about our church or think you know about our church from what you've read on the Internet or read people write here in Y!A all-knowing-land. Truth of the matter is, yes God did not grant the right of the priesthood to black men until 1978. It wasn't "the Church". Why did this happen? I honestly don't know other than I believe in the word of the prophets and believe that this was not an act of racism but an act of God. It's ok if you believe something else. I have no problem with people taking offense to this because it is something that is hard to understand. Personally? I do not believe that anyone, of any color, creed, background, personality or lifestyle is any more or less than me. I fear no man because we are all created in God's image. We all have the opportunity to live in His presence and we will some day account for the things we have done on this earth.
Not everyone who is LDS is white. You must know that on some level, whether or not you choose to admit it, is your decision.
But I never have been and never will be a racist, so could you please limit your comments to those people you know unequivocably to be racist, please? I'm sure you wouldn't want me assuming things about you because of things I've read on the Internet, would you?

They vote republican .
The republican party is supported by 80% of the US military. They know where the money is. er.. was. It promotes the funding and manufacture of weapons> Texas . Right now they are promoting a global genocide on Muslim people. All over muslim Africa - but in particular Arabs. Anti Arab racism is rampant in republican circles, especially the more religious hoity toity ones.
Got Peroxide?
Trying to make people change their religion is by definition an act of racism- in my opinion. There is also environmental racism and the republicans are 100% guilty of that.
GOT STARVATION? CROP FAILURE?
GLOBAL WARMING?
Black priests ? What planet are you on?
You guys are Americans and what unifies you with the rest of protestant America is you wholehearted support of US foreign policy.
You bought into this anti Arab racism so you too could be considered mainstream instead of being a persecuted cult . Mormons and Baptist can agree on their hatred of Muslims and arabs. Otherwise they fight a turf battle over who gets to convert the Navajo Indians. Red white and blue you're all the same . Half the women fighting in Iraq are black. They too will become injured and die. Like the Iraqi women their babies with be malformed from DU radiation. That's a kind of racism too where minorities are forced to join the military in order to get college. I don't see rich Mormons forced to do that or rich Baptists and evangelicals.
Hell.. they are doing interior decoration and getting their hair done for church.
All wars are racist. You cant kill people unless you hate their race. Mormon church has faithfully voted for war at every election. All of them except 15-20 % who are more populist and self reliant. But among their leaders? The urban rich ? They love the power and the money. Plus they are too insecure to challenge the staus quo. 'Ole Mitt Rommney cut his eye teeth on the writings of that other Mormon, George Gilders.
Gilders was Ronald Reagan's personal philosopher. Gilders logic prevails even today.
The reason that kind of sexist economy Gilders describes can work is because there is an invisible underclass of another race that does the dirty work.
Personally I would rather give equality to everyone. Instead the republicans promote reliance on people of color to do menial labor. They also promote the theft of oil and usury upon 3rd world people.
Its a racket. It's components are racism , domination of women, reproductive enslavement and warfare to steal resources.
If I were a racial minority anywhere in the world this would be the history of my people.
We do not know who comes first , the missionaries or the military , police and dictators . But they INVARIABLY come together like a heavenly wedded couple.

What was it that you told me...? Blacks can only get to heaven as slaves? Or was it, you believe blacks didn't help white people and Jesus in their war with Satan so the blacks are condemned by God to live as slaves? And it's not racist because you believe it isn't?...Hmm, wasn't the LDS church listed alongside other bastions of peace, love and godliness like the KKK and the Neo-nazis until the 60's?

It isn't to be taken literally.
"Racist" is just used as a high-profile insult these days, which people like to fling at that which they personally do not like. They will take any possible excuse to do so.
I would advise you not to pay any heed to it.
