In my opinion the scents out there that market their ability to "attract fish" are just a gimmick. So, if you're looking for a scent to attract fish, you're out of luck. What they do have out there are scents that make fish hold on to your bait longer, giving you more time for a strong, firm hookset. The one I use is Megastrike, it might seem expensive at $8 a tube but you only need a very small dab so it lasts a long time. Another that you might look into is the Carolina lunker sauce I've heard it wooks well too, but i'm not sure of the price.

Good luck!

Simon answered well.

I also like the Berkley "Powerbait" scent's, "YUM" scent's & "Bang" makes some good scent's. If you just need a scent to mask human odor, try "Baitmate" brand, (Baitmate is mostly Anise oil).

Big John has a point. Wd-40 CAN be used to mask human odor, but now that Company's are actually making fish attractant's, why go with it?

Berkley Powerbait & YUM scent has pheromones, Etc, that actually DO turn fish "on". However, you would have to use a ton of it, to produce a feeding frenzy!

And don't forget to use scent's in saltwater too! "Scent's of the Sea" brand Pogey & Shrimp adds a nice "taste" for your lures that will cause fish to "hold on" longer.

I completely disagree with the comments about it being a gimmick and not working! Berkely Power Baits, Gulps etc, is the best artificial baits I have ever come in contact with. A lot of scientific stuff went into making these baits. Their made from real fish parts! these baits are awesome! I've actually been doing a study for the past year on Berkely baits how they claim that their bait outfishes live baits? Well they're claim is right on target! The thing I like about these baits is they're biodegradeable and digestable. So if you lose it to mother nature, don't worry, it won't stick around, it disolves! Also if a fish swallowes it, they will digest it! So it's fish safe and environmentally safe too! the smell is horrid to humans though! LOL But it definatley turns the bite on! I have never been skunked on Berkley baits out there in the ocean!
My father's charter company is having a fishing tournament throughout the year, I have to count each fish that are caught on Berkely gulp baits. If you'd like those numbers, E-mail me! I'll be happy to send them to you! So far the number one gulp bait for Deep Sea fishing is the Nuclear Chicken!
Good Luck Fishing!

So many manufacturers claim to have the best scent for fishing different species of fish that it's hard to choose which is the best.
Want to try something new?
Try WD-40. Yup. The spray lubricant. It is not made from petroleum products. It is a derivative of FISH OIL. If you don't believe me, do some research on-line about WD-40.
Just spray a little bit on your live bait or lures and jigs and see if I'm not right.

it is just like in hunting deer I use scent to cover or for interest in what I am using! I want a fish to hold on to my lure and using scents do this!
They dont attract! Wow how wrong is that certain scents emit odor which in turn does attract fish. Have you ever chummed before!
The main reason for scent is to give the fish flavor(something to hold onto)!

As I've stated before, I'm not an avid user of attractants, however got turned on by a friend that used what is called "Pro-Cure". Gotta' admit it did me right on one Trout fishin' day ~ NICE, "Bows"!! Was usin' Blue Fox spinners and addin' a dab of Pro-Cures, "Night Crawler Super Gel" ~ to reiterate it did me right ;) ;)...

We didn't catch a thing all day and I put banana boat sunscreen number 30 on my hands and baited the hook, the next thing we knew, we were slaying the walleye!

I've had equal luck with both garlic and anise. I use garlic most of the time, but they both work. I usually use either Bang or Chompers brand sprays.
