No, my friend has a m44 and mine is the 91/30 and when we shoot the same ammo the flash and muzzle report is significantly bigger on his rifle. This is due to the much shorter barrel on his m44, I don't remember the exact numbers but it about 10 inches shorter.
We have not yet shot over my chronograph to see just how much velocity is lost with the shorter barrel. But I'm betting its 150 FPS or more difference.

Same caliber, but it is a different model. The M-44 is a carbine, the 91/30 is the regular 'infantry' model.

The 44 is the shorter barrel carbine version; with a much more impressive muzzle blast.

Wouldn't exactly call it a fire breather, but mine is a really fun gun to shoot.
