. . . the story of Jesus: his virgin birth, crucifixion, resurrection, etc., is actually a personification of the sun and its travels through the zodiac, as prelated by such deities as Horus, Mithra, Osiris, Zeus, etc., etc., etc.? Aren't Christians condemning themselves by condemning astrology?

Don't know enough about astrology to give an intelligent answer. Sorry.

Your question implies that the founders of Christianity actually used the Zodiac as the outline for "creating" their religion. Is that what you mean, and if so could you cite a source so I can look into it further? That's a good kitty!!

The story of Jesus' birth and the star leading the 3 Magi was miraculous. God used the star as he is free to use all of creation. The problem things like "personification of the sun" and the other Gods that get mixed up with it. Astrology is used to tell the future. Thats superstitution.
Astrology and Astronomy were not defined as different disciplines until the middle ages. There is a big difference.
Furtune telling is superstition. Learning about the universe is another matter.

Hi ^^
Their is a very big difference in Astrology and Astronomy. Yes Astrology is against the words of God. But Astronomy is not it is the watching of the stars and moon. The Astrological chart and such are from a pagan descent and are not practiced among believers in the Lord. So I hope I was able to shed some light on the subject for you.

If that so-called “star” had been from God, why did it forsake the magi after it had taken them to Jesus, thus leaving them free to return to Herod? Why did not the “star” guide them back another way, if it was from God, and not make it necessary for God to intervene by sending an angel to them to direct them not to report back to Herod? The angel from God directed the shepherds to Bethlehem and gave them a sign by which to recognize the infant, but the “star” did not do this first. So the magi were called to Jesus’ enemy to ascertain for him the child’s location after all this time, maybe two years after his birth. After Herod was alarmed and stirred up to make efforts to kill the child, then first the “star” appeared again and guided the magi to where the child was.
So all the evidence is against the “star” being from God, for God does not direct his people by movements of stars. But those magi were astrologers and star worshipers, no matter how sincere their hearts might have been respecting the “King of the Jews”. (Deut. 4:19; 2 Ki. 17:16; Isa. 47:13, 14) The Devil used them unwittingly in an attempt against the life of the young child Jesus.

Actually Christianity doesn't Condemn Astrology, psychics, spells, or mysticism.

Jewish law in the Old testament condemned some forms, but as anyone should know upon Jesus' death the Jewish laws were annulled.

In fact early forms of Christianity especially those of the Gnostics are steeped in Mysticism.

Don't forget the 12 disciples and their correlation to the 12 signs of the zodiac.

It is because they are not taught that information. Have you read the bible? Do you have any experience with Christianity? They learn the myth as fact NOT the history of the myth as it compares to other, older myths.

The truth is that throughout the bible you will find a lot of connections between the bible and pagan beliefs. That's because the pagan religions are much older that the christian religions, and therefore took what they liked from those religions and blended it with Christianity. In fact all religions are different variations of one another.

That is a good question!! I asked myself that at one time as well, and I asked around with people who have knowledge of the Bible, and did research on it, too.
I, myself, used to do astrology.
First, we have to know that it isnt "reading the stars" that is neccessarily bad. But, it is what people make of it, that God wants to prevent. Sorta like, a gun isnt a bad thing- it can be used to defend oneself or hunt for food. But, when in the hands of a bad person, it can be used for bad things. So, they should not be able to have a gun. It's like the trouble making kids at school that ruin privledges for the rest of of the (good) kids. The privledge has to be taken away all together to avoid problems.
The wise men read stars to come to the conclusion of Christ's birth!
BUT, it is what people make of reading stars that is the issue.
Stars in the Bible refer to planets.
The Bible is clear there is only ONE God, and that there are no other deities (like Horus, Mithra, Osiris, Zeus).
People name stars after gods, give the gods the credit, and they, themselves get the credit for knowledge, and take away from God. God does not like or want this. He is the Creator of all and should get all the glory for all things.
One might find it interesting that in the Book of Genesis, it says God created "Light" on the first day. But the Sun and the stars had not been created yet. They are given special mention in a passage which follows later. In Gen 1:14, God is said to have made the sun and moon and stars "for signs" on the fourth day of Creation. For thousands of years, astrologers have been doing just that - looking "for signs" as a way of understanding what is happening, or will happen, on Earth. But, they are turning to things and the credit not to the "Heavens" but to powers, and things, that are not God. Enter the problem.

God gave us these for signs, as He says, but, when we turn to them for everything, as a lifestyle, dependant on them and not God, and creating other things that God does not want, well, no we go beyond what God made them for.

We have to know what God is saying/what He means in each verse. We cant read into it what we want to coincide with what we want or think.
In Isaiah 47:13-15 (NIV) says "All the counsel you have received has only worn you out. Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the flame…Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you."
This would not have been said if this was an acceptable way of life.
Astrology teaches the relative positioning in the sky of the Sun, Moon and planets has an influence upon individuals and upon the course of human affairs. The actual word for astrology in the Hebrew language literally means, ‘divining the heavens'. Astrology is a divination art. Divination is the act of foretelling future events, or of revealing secret knowledge, by means of a supernatural agency. God prohibits the practice of divination. It's in the Bible, Leviticus 19:26 (NIV). "Do not practice divination or sorcery."
When the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land of Canaan, God warned them not to practice it. In Deuteronomy 18:9, 12, 14 (NIV). "Do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there…The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so…Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."
Divination is actually regarded to be a grave sin. It's in the Bible, 1 Samuel 15:23 (NIV). "Rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry."
The astrologers of Babylon were unable to help the King with this troublesome dream. However, God had blessed his prayerful prophet Daniel with the true gifts of the Holy Spirit, and he was brought before the king to interpret the dream. It's in the Bible, Daniel 2:27-28 (NKJ). "Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, ‘The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these…'" With God’s anointing, Daniel was able to describe and explain the king's prophetic dream.
Hope that helped?
