The best way to "know" the Gita is to read it regularly as a devotional exercise. It does not need explanations; it is self explanatory. Krishna speaks clearly and precisely about how to achieve Yoga, there is no need to have someone else explain what is already summed up neatly in the text, nor to embroil yourself with a religious organization. It is best to read a number of translations and choose one that you feel comfortable with; some are so cluttered up with flowery language that it is impossible to make out what is being said! An excellent English translation is that of Juan Mascaro, published by Penguin Books. I find that when in distress, it is good to read chapters 9-11; i find things always seem to clear up for me after that!.PS Did you know that Gandhi learned about the Gita from western people in England? And that the Gita was the first Sanskrit text ever to be translated into another language?

You must read the original sanskrit text if possile .If not , You can read the translation by "Barbara Stoler Miller " , the Professor of Sanskrit and the Head of the department of Oriental Studies of the Columbia university . New York . She has tanslated the verses genuinely as they are in the original sanskrit text without any bias or tilt .You do not reqiuire any interperetation at all.
Copies won't be available in India .The paper back edition in the US costs about $6 . It is available in" Barns and Noble " book stores . Used Books are available with amazon .com. The price would range from50 cents to 1 or 2 $ but shipping and handling would cost about 5 to 6 $.But the book is worth its weight in gold .
See Barbara's translation f he 15Th verse of the 15Th teaching mentioned by Srinivasemeskay.:
"I dwell deep
in the heart of everyone ;
memory ,knowlede ,
and resoning come from me ;
I am the object to be known
through all the sacred lore;
and I am its knower ,
the creator of its final truth"

If death is treated as a problem by anyone (this is the buddhi and who is attached with this buddhi is known as buddhiyukta and the hole process is known as buddhiyoga) than only he can know the secret knowledge of Bhagvadgita. Otherwise knowing is impossible. If anything is treated as problem we try to get solution. Almost people treat death as truth and hence they can't get entry in Bhagvadgita. How buddhiyoga is to be achieved? Lord Krishna says the means of it in chapter 10 shlokas 8 to 11.

First of all, Bhagavad Gita is not a Hindu's book.
Hindu, Christian, Muslim, lawyer, father, mother, indian, american... all these are bodily conceptions of life since it enforces that you are this body.
Bhagavad Gita is a book of Transcendental science spoken by God Himself. And the Supreme Lord is Krishna as accepted in Srimad Bhavatam, all the vedic literature, by sages and Acharyas of authentic sampradayas.

To understand Bhagavad Gita, first of all surrender is required. Means you should accept what ever Krishna says. The same thing was done by Arjuna, "sisyas te shadmi mam tvam prappanam"- "I surrender unto you and from now I am your disciple". That is required. First spiritual Master of all is Krishna himself. Ultimately, all the vedic knowledge culminate in knowing him. [Bhagavad Gita: 15th Chap, Verse 15]. Next is reading a translation given by an Acharya, who is self realised, a pure devotee. Not an academic scholar, or politician or any other person. He should be following and realised Krishna's instructions to the fullest. He should be brahma-nishta. Then this acharya should come in one of the four sampradayas only - brahma, sri, kumara and rudra sampradayas. He should come in a line of disciplic succession [Bhag Gita 4.2]. This is the requirement. Gita means Krishna's words as it is. Not interpreted by mundande mind and senses. No. Authorised by Srila Vyasadeva, the literary incarnation of Krishna for compiling the Vedas.

Very Very Fortunately, all these are met by His Divine Grace A.C. BhaktiVedantaswami Srila Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of International Soceity of Krishna Consciousness.
The words of "Bhagavad Gita As It Is" is 100% same as the words spoken by Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, 5000 years ago in the battle of Kurukshetra or millions of years ago to Vivasvan, the sun-god from Krishna himself again. The knowledge of Bhagavad Gita is pure and sublime. It should not be concocted or interpreted to a person of this material world.
