Hi.
At the begining of the summer I started a work-out routine and started eating much healthier. I dont eat anything like I used to, I barely drink soda now, and before summer I wasnt working out at all, now I go to the gym almost 3 times a week and work my @ss off. And if I dont go to the gym, I have a routine I do at home. What is the problem? I weigh 140 and my BMI is 26.4 I am 14 and i am 5, 1'. I would be happy if I just lost 5 pounds! Atleast its a start! My long term weight loss goal is 115. What am I doing wrong? Any tips?
Thanks.

BMI is irrelevant - what matters is your body fat percentage - it determines if you are overweight or not. (you can have high bmi but low body fat percentage -bodybuilders, or low bmi and high bfp like anorexics)
more cardio - you have to do it 4- 6 times a week for average of 45min to lose fat
soda - none at all, drink water
make sure you eat every 2-3 hours (5-6 small meals a day) and compare amount of calories you are eating with what daily calorie intake calculator tells you should be eating to maintain/lose weight.
drink at least 8 glasses of water a day

There are many possibilities as to why you are not losing the weight. The first thing to remember is to keep a positive attitude. While your BMI is slightly above the normal range, you need to remember that you are still growing and developing. For many girls in their early teens, it takes a couple of years for that last bit of "baby fat" to come off. I'm not sure what kind of work-out you are currently doing, but as a nursing student, I would recommend moderate exercise for 30-60 minutes a day at least 5 days a week. Doing a light work-out 2 or 3 times a week may not be enough. You don't necessarily need to go to the gym - you can get a great cardio work-out simply by taking a brisk walk or jogging. Remember: 1 pound of fat is 3500 calories! That means that you need to burn off an extra 3500 calories to lose 1 pound. Focus on foods that you enjoy that contain less fat and sugar, drink plenty of water, and remember to exercise in order to keep your metabolism up! You've already made a great start.

The best range to lose weight in is 1 to 2.5 lbs a week. This will allow your body to accustom itself to the loss and the skin to regain its prestretched stage. Losing weight too quickly will cause the skin of abdomen, chest and inner thighs to sag, possibly dramatically. I don’t personally believe in any of the fad diets that keep showing up. I think that they put your body into an unhealthy famine mode which will cause you to gain the fat right back if you start to eat normally again. The best idea is to eliminate all junk food. You can do a cheat day if you need to but don’t go overboard. Eat balanced meals of reasonable size. Overeating will cause your stomach to be too large and you will still feel hungry when you’re not. Also have lots of healthy snacks during the day. Ideally you’ll want to eat 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day. Carry food with you so you aren’t tempted to eat unhealthily when you’re out of the house. And don’t buy unhealthy foods. Get foods that are low in bad fats—we do need fat to survive but not saturated fat. Minimize the processed flours and sugars, no white bread, no sugar. Choose leaner meats and protein sources. Don’t expect to eat pizza and burritos all the time and lose weight. And eat tons of vegetables. Eat salads, steamed vegetables and raw vegetables too. You can’t eat so much celery that you’ll get fat. Don’t eat too much fruit or things containing high fructose corn syrup. The reason is that fructose is hard on the liver because it can only be metabolized there. You can eat fruit during or after a workout. Don’t eat late at night because your body will turn it into fat. Eat a smaller amount of calories than needed to maintain your weight. You have burn more than you intake. Always exercise. Cardio especially, but weights are good too. Don’t give up. You’ll be glad you chose to lose the weight.
