Unless there is some major breakthrough life will end for every human being on this planet (as of this moment) sometime within the next 120 years, so why worry.
The Mayan prophecies used to scare me when I was younger but now I'm getting old and jaded :)
120 years at a great big push seems to be the allotted time span for humans (and very few make anywhere near that) so I just enjoy the time I have.
I believe that the Mayan calendar was very sophisticated as was their knowledge of the night sky but I am not sure if that knowledge extended to the earth in general or to their particular piece of it.
Thus, there might be a catastrophe in 2012 but it might just affect South America causing the end of the world as the Mayans knew it.
Either way, try not to dwell on it, I think I'd rather go 'poof' than linger on scavenging among the ruins and fighting off the devolving remnants of humanity.

I believe that the world will end sometime in the future. But I can't say that it will in 2012. We will see when the time comes, although considering everything that has happened from the beginning of the new millennium, something might happen. We have seen climate changes, we have seen the oceans rising. The snow is melting, the food is getting scarce, the water is polluted, the people want action and less politics, the air is getting harder to breath, life is getting too complicated.
What will come will come, the question is: Can we take it?
This time, we aren't expecting God to come and make things right, He left us to ourselves, and people just can't agree to a way to resolve these problems. If this continues, the world will end sooner then anyone realizes.

The Mayans believed nothing of the sort. Their calendar went to 2012. Had the Mayans survived, they would have made a new one just as I will replace my 2007 calendar with a 2008 calendar.

The planet Earth will survive for about 5billion years at which time the Sun will expand and cook it. Humans and their descendents will probably not last that long. Life on this planet will be very different then from what it is now. There could be many different intelligent life forms that evolve between now and the end of the world. There is nothing special about humans.

The "world" is a fairly big object in comparison with what we know. It doesnt just end. It may be harmed, injured, or changed,. but it takes a lot to end a world.

Go to www.exitmundi.nl to see a whole list of things that could happen!!! Its not for the faint hearted or hardheaded fundamentalist, but it does propose some depressing and logical ideas.

And P.S.

Thee mayans never believed the world would end in 2012. Their calendar system did not allow them to go past that date. Ignorant westerners took the idea and ASSUMED the world would end.

In fact, the mayans were, in their time, a very intelligent society.. but they still were primitive...

i've got heard with regard to the hearsay that the international will lead to 2012, and function discovered clarification why or why no longer this is actual. The reasoning at the back of the international ending in 2012 is the 're-visual appeal' of a planet common as Planet X. hearsay has it that because of the fact of this is strange orbit, it is going to in straight forward terms come close to earth each and every now and then, yet whilst it does it is going to pull earth out of its organic orbit, inflicting loss of solar for quite a few months, which might kill off most of the inhabitants. curiously there is info that Planet X is at the instant close to Pluto. My theory is that that's what befell to the dinosaurs particularly of the huge Bang. yet info against that's that supposedly planet X regarded no longer see you later in the past, yet quite no longer something befell. additionally, even however the Mayan calendar will lead to 2012, the assumption is that it's going to start up lower back, no longer represent the tip of the international.

No, 2012 will flow into 2013, 2014 and so on. The sun has some 4.5 billions years of life left in it. Barring any total nuclear war (we've mostly passed that stage I think) and an asteroid collision I see no reason why our descendants wouldn't be around at time.

Well the only time we know for sure is when the sun will go out in about 4.5 billion years. But I doubt humans will last that long. We will probably be wiped out by an asteroid or something.

The world will last until God chooses to end it, though we have no idea when that will be. My only hope is that we don't destroy ourselves before he gets the chance to bring us up to Him.
