I really doubt your dog has Mange. The balding on the tail is from your dog being very itchy in that one spot so he's gnawed the hair out. If it were mange your dog would have thinning hair all over, Bald spots all over and your dog would have a strong wet dog odor. If your dog is suffering from a flea infestation then you'll need to invest in some Frontline or Advantage. And you may need to treat your house and yard with flea killer. If your dog is in misery then i suggest you persuade your parents to get him to a Vet

Only thing you can do is call your vet.....you can't treat it with anything in your house. There are two kinda of mange, I think. One is very treatable...and the other isn't so much. Only way to know which kinda your dog has is to take her to the vet and get the right treatment. And I have a question for you.....where did you get the puppy from if it has mange?

Fleas have nothing to do with mange. If he won't let you spray him, it's obviously hurting him whenever you do. Mange can cause infections, it's probably very painful. JUST TAKE HIM TO A VET, doen't waste your time asking people online because they're all going to have the same answer as mine. Your dog's health should come before that. He will get better, i just hope it is soon.

The vet is the only answer. They know how to handle all kinds of dogs,so that is no excuse. And,flea soap will not cure mange and neither will Dawn, and the Febreeze is NOT safe to spray directly on a dog! No wonder he's going crazy! Take him to a vet! How would you like it if you itched all over and no one would take you to a doctor? Ask your parents that question? Also,if it IS mange,YOU and anyone else who's been around the dog can catch it! It's the same as scabies! If you can't take care of him, give him to a shelter, where he can get veterinary care.

There are 2 types of mange. One is contagious to humans and one is not. No matter what type, he needs to see a vet and be treated.

You seriously mean that you cannot take your dog out of the house, go to the vet for help??? How sad is that?? What have you been doing to the poor thing besides spraying him with stuff.. You should have done a better job socializing him and taking him places.. What if there is an emergency and you NEED to take him somewhere?? The neurotic little brat refuses and dies?? Come on.. Get it together and teach the dog that you are the person and you are in charge and get his butt to the vet and get him treated properly.. This is just ridiculous.. Why would you allow this to happen.. He's a dog, your are the person.. Teach him what is expected of him and socialize him so he is a normal dog... Not a neurotic little freak.

I hope it is not mange as that is very serious and you can get that from your dog (it's scabies, but on dogs). It sounds though, like it could be a flea allergy and the best remedy is to bathe with an organic anti flea product then wait about three days and apply some topical anti-flea med on him as directed. PetSmart sells BioSpot if your parents won't take him to a Vet. If his behavior is aggressive you can get a muzzle if you have to but it would be good for him to be examined to make sure you are using the right product.
Diet can cause allergic reactions such as rashes and hair loss, too. Goldens seem to be prone to skin problems. I have a Golden mix who inherited bad skin but it stays healthy with supplements, good diet and about once a year she has to have a cortisone shot.
Hope your parents will take your dog to the Vet.

Unfortunately you may not have a choice about taking the dog to the vet. Febreeze shouldn't hurt him any, it's been approved for use around animals but I can understand how it would scare him now. Always go for positive reinforcement. Show him the spray bottle of the anti itch stuff and let him smell it so he is familiar with it. Spray it away from him so he can see it won't hurt him and let him smell it again if he wants. After that he may still startle from being sprayed but always allow him to smell and see what he's being sprayed with while saying good dog and maybe giving him a treat.

If the thinning hair doesn't go away you will need to go to the vet whether the dog likes it or not. The medication is perscription only plus you'll need to learn which type of mange it might be or if it's just a bacterial infection. Again positive reinforcement. When taking your dog in be sure to bring treats and be encouraging but don't coddle the dog or it'll learn that it's ok to be timid or shy around the vet. Mainly be confident and assertive and the dog will take it's cues from you.

you might just wont to talk to a vet and see what they say. and if it comes down to it just put a muzzle on him just for the vet visit or if your dog would be more comfortable see if your vet could come to you. IT would probably be best if you went to them though that way your dog is in a neutral area.

Do you mean Dawn soap isn't that dish soap? That might not be the best idea if thats the case...thats meant for dishes. I feel sorry for your dog...people are spraying febreeze on him to? I would just take him to the vet before you kill him.
