Have you heard of this before? What does this mean to you?

"A Coptic, Christian sect in Egypt, woman came to Omar complaining that the Muslim governor Amru-Ibn Al-`As took her house in order to add the land to an adjacent site being used for the construction of a mosque. Omar inquired into the matter and was told by Amr that the Muslims had increased in number and needed to expand the mosque. Amr explained that he had offered the Coptic woman a great deal of money, but when she refused, Amr left the money in a fund for her to take it anytime she wanted. Though many modern laws permit such a procedure, Omar did not accept it according to Islamic principles. He ordered the Muslims to stop the expansion of the mosque and rebuild the Christian woman's house, as it had been before."

Omar r.a. was a great man who highly valued Islamic principles.

Islam is the only religion which provides protection for religious minorities. Christianity has a long history of religious persecution and forcible conversions, which only stopped after the French revolution. After the reconquista they expelled all the Muslims and Jews from Spain, those who refused to leave were killed.

Even nowadays, although they claim to have religious tolerance, non-Muslim societies still restrict life of Muslims. Muslims are not allowed to take second, third and fourth wife, when it comes to building a mosque they delay with giving the permit, some countries like UK have banned halal slaughter, some countries like France, Turkey and Singapore have banned hijab in public schools, not to mention the harassment that Muslims have to face during security check ups. They blame terrorism, but why they prefer to target bearded Muslims and Muslimas with hijab, while they know too well that terrorists go around shaved with Western look trying to blend into the society???

lets just lay aside labels such as Christian and Muslim . There are people that do good just because. That has nothing to do with religion it is just the right thing to do. If it is in ones power to do so,there are some that come to others aide without any belief system at all.

Lovely story but perhaps a more recent example would be more valid?

How about a story being a hijab wearing islamic feminist defending fatimah mernissi' critique of male interpretations of quranic verses about veil wearing?

That I would like to see and an explanation of why there are no FEMALE DERVISHES. What do female sufis do to praise the divine?

I'ld like to see Karzai leave the relative safety of Kabul and personally negiotate for the release of the Korean hostages?

I'll like to see a female minister in the Afghan govt who's a RAWA member!

I'll like to see a news story aboutmodern Egyptian Muslim family members returning any women forcibly converted and "married" by their clan members back to their coptic families with an apology and then send the rapist to jail!

Ali Ibn Abe Talib lost his shield, then he found the shield with a Jew in the market. Ali, who was the Khalifah at that time, ask for his shield back. The Jew said it is his shield.

So, Ali and the Jew went to the Judge. The Judge asked Ali, do you have any witnesses that this shield is yours?? Ali said: My sons. The judge said: I won't accept their statement because they are your sons, do you have anyone else?? Ali said No.

The judge said: then the shield is the property of the Jew.

This was between the Khalifa, the president at that time, and a Jew.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

I would like to point it out to to Neva that the "man" under discussion DID care about religion. He was the greatest propagator of Islam in the history, was from the prophet' companions and was the second caliph of Islam. What he did was precisely show to the Muslims (and the world) how Islam deals with non Muslims even in a position of power. So it had everything to do with religion.

I have never seen a muslim stick up for a christian, or vice versa, because I've never met a muslim person... well probably I have but I didn't know they were.

I've never heard that story, but I think it is pretty cool. We could all use that much respect for other religions.

I have tons of stories like this!
My entire family is from Iraq. My grandfather's best friend was a Muslim named Yousif, and has told me so many stories of how they stood together, through thick and thin; my grandfather a Catholic and Yousif a Muslim.

Friendship and kindness knows no barriers. :)

From some Christian answers to this question, I can tell that they insist to close their eyes and block their hearts to the TRUTH of Islam as a religion of pure justice regardless who you are and where you come from.
