There was One Israeli pilot who flew for the Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain. The word Israeli is ancient and a classical format of English to describe a person from the Holy Land who is not an Arab or a Christian. The term Jew is not specific - it could be my neighbour who is English but Jewish. Israel is the Biblical land of the Chosen People of God, the Jews; as written in the Bible, therefore a person coming from the Holy Land [Israel] is an Israeli. Even before 1948 - I promise. At the time of the Battle of Britain what we call Israel was usually then just called Palestine.

The Squadrons which flew in the Battle of Britain 1940 - were made up of many nations [nationalities] including, The Eagle Squardon Royal Air Force [Americans], The Polish Squadron Royal Air Force, who incidentally managed to shoot down sixteen enemy aircraft first time up - yeehaa! And lots more folk from all over the place.

The situation was pretty desperate and there was a serious shortage of pilots. I'm not sure of the BofB was a win or a stale mate or just a stand off or what. The Luftwaffe could not sustain the losses against a British nation working flat out in the factories to win.

I had a pal who died in his 80s back in the 1990s who had been making Spitfire wings during the BofB in a tube tunnel [secret location] Blimey!

No i do no longer belive it extremely is actual. (i'm hoping no longer) yet i comprehend that a monkey swam ashore from a shipwreck interior the north sea in the time of the Napoleonic conflict and the human beings of Hertlypool theory it replaced right into a French undercover agent. They hung the undesirable project and characteristic been ridiculed ever for the reason that. (sorry if it extremely is spelt incorrect)

The name "Israel" has meant in common and liturgical usage over the past 3,000 years, both the Land of Israel and the entire Jewish nation, whether in Israel or the Diaspora. The name originated from a verse in the Bible, Genesis 32:28, where Jacob is renamed Israel (possibly śara + el or struggle with God) after successfully wrestling with an angel of God.

I have the idea that the word 'Israeli' was synonymous with the man being Jewish........

I do remember reading something about this - years ago, but I can't recall what it was that was written - other than the 'Pilot' was Jewish.

Sorry.
