My son is 6 years old and has an anxiety disorder. As a consequence, he chews on things: toys, clothes, blankets, etc. He has destroyed his bedding and some of his clothes, and once nearly choked on a piece of fabric in his sleep. What can I do to stop him?

He does see a therapist, and she suggests "redirecting" him when I see the behavior. I guess I'm just looking for some tips on how to do this.

Some kids just need that extra sensory input. You can buy a product called "chewlery". That way you can save their clothes.

I'd hope you're seeing a specialist for your son's anxiety disorder. This would be a question for him/her, as people on here are not used to dealing with the disorder, and would most likely only be able to help you if this were a dicipline problem, which in your son's case, it's obviously not. Good luck~

I've still got a chewing problem. A squeezy ball might help just to get out his anxiety. I do that and most of the time I feel no urge to chew.
