They are safer and more peaceful than most places, but they're definitely not completely safe and peaceful. However, when there's a major commotion involving the Amish in the east half of our state, it's unusual enough to be reported in my newspaper in the west half of our state. That's an indication of how rare major violations of safety or disturbances of the peace are in their community. Their greatest hazards are usually occupational. Farm life isn't easy, especially without electricity, and carpentry and other craftsman trades can also be dangerous. Another real danger are careless drivers who hog the road and speed by them while they travel by bicycle or buggy.

I worked in a hospital once near a Amish colony. Very nice people. Not at all shy.
I wish it wasn't true but some Satan worshipers did some bad stuff there, not just to them but the didn't get left out.
God Bless!

As far as being 'safe'...no.

Last year a delivery man lined up, and shot a group of Amish girls, in their school.

In the late 90's, there were a group of Amish youth who were arrested for playing a part in a drug ring.

An Amish boy (age 18) was charged with animal cruelty, after pushing his horse too hard, attempting to avoid arrest for DUI (I swear, I can't make this stuff up).

When left to their own devices, the community as a whole, is much more peaceful. Unfortunately, the rest of the world encroaches on them, treats them like a novelty, and puts them on display.

Basically yes though not much happens there in general compared to anywhere else. They are also very insular- they don't like outsiders and don't like their own business getting outside- so exactly how safe or peaceful might not be known to outsiders.

No community is basically safe and peaceful - not while humans live in it.
