But when life's got you down, how do you guys actually do these wonderful rosy things? When I'm upbeat, consoling a friend, it's easy to say, 'buck up, man! you'll be okay! time heals!' But does anyone have practical, baby steps style advice for getting your head straight?

Yeah sure. If you feel overwhelmed and anxiety is high, its your body's way of saying, oh its time to unwind, and get some rest. Therefore, run a luxurious bath and enjoy soaking in it...get your favorite comfortable robe and warm it in the dryer while you are soaking. Light aroma candles in your bathroom, and use safety precautions of course, and just enjoy your luxurious spa you've created for yourself. Just breathe deep relaxing breaths and soak awhile. Once you get out of the tub or spa...wrap your ready, warm robe around you, and relax into your bed, and get some zzz's. Don't think of anything, just rest. When you wake up in the morning start with a good breakfast, then pick up the phone and make an appointment to see your family doctor. Once you get in, ask for a full physical and ask to be referred to a cousellor or pshychiatrist to help you cope with your anxieties, and/or state of confusion. Your mental health is as important as your physical health. Don't over look it! Once that priority is done, relax and find a paper and pen, and write down a list of things, that you thought of possibly enjoying to try, that you may have put off for some reason or other, or a new thing entirely such as dance class, physical fitness class, crafts, arts, etc...then go out for a quiet walk, and go out for lunch, or walk back for lunch. Find something of enjoyment to keep busy until super time, and repeat this process for awhile, until you can get in to see your doctor. If you watch t.v. watch comedy, if you're into music, listen to happy music, or nature type c.d's. Seek support from family, friends, etc...those who are positive. Focus on being good to yourself. Every small step you take is a great accomplishment. Healing, has no set schedule, but healing will come. When anxiety is high, patience is challenged, therefore rest is the most important "to do" on the list and second, a very sensible diet and more healthier you eat, the better you will feel, but also keep your diet on a routine time schedule, that will help a lot. Hope that helps, good luck, and thanks for asking.

find some funny jokes, that you find hilarious. cook your favorite foods (and I don't mean chocolate or ice cream ;) ) take yourself out for some fun. watch a stupid cartoon just for the fun of it. sit out in the sunshine and read a joke book. get some sugary drink and get really hyper and run around doing whatever. act like a little kid again and don't be scared what anyone might think. try to lick your elbow. see if you can touch your tounge to your nose.
it all sounds ridiculous, but the point is, it's so ridiculous you have to laugh, no matter how down you are. and once you start laughing and having fun, you're on your way back up.

When I feel down, I love watching comedies. And sometimes it is just fun to sit by yourself and people watch. Sometimes people do the dumbest funniest things. Play with your animals, read your favorite book. Do things you love and eventually you will start to love yourself and be more confident. You can just hear someone say be more confident and then do it...you have to just achieve it.. Give yourself some alone time and do things you love. See what is really important in your life.
