No, fear of being a doofus keeps me from joining any religion. It's just totally uncool, man!

Christianity does indeed have merit, but only if the message is actuated. The historical accuracies are trivial, yet thats what everyone argues about. As a metaphor, Christianity is very valuable are it shows how to follow you bliss, in the words of Joseph Campbell.

When Jesus said "through me you will enter the Kingdom of heaven" it's a metaphor for living his quality of life. If you too are compassionate, forgiving, and show others loving kindness you will make your own inner experience/life happy and blissful: i.e. Heaven.

But if you are cruel, "sinful", then these things will occupy your mind instead.

I'm an atheist and I know Christianity has merit, it is the suffering invoked in Christianity's sake, and fighting over Christianity's asserted historical accounts that has none. Take the message and use it, but don't fight over it else you are already missing the point.

LOL.......... no. I started out Christian. Jesus' teachings have merit but all the other crap, including the focus on his death, is bunk. I am not afraid of being laughed at for being honest.

EDIT: I couldn't help but notice that everyone that disagreed with you has a thumb down. Does your fear of being wrong keep you from admitting our answers may have merit?

Most of my friends are Christian. I keep my mouth shut. If only they knew how I really felt. Christianity has merit like Islam has merits, Atheism has merits and plain not giving a F#ck has it's merits too.
I don't fear being laughed at.

Have merit for what?
For teaching that people of other faiths , atheists, agnostics (millions of Non-christians)will be sent to be tortured in hell?
That is the merit of Christianity, not a good one.
I am the one laughing at Chrstians believing in that non sense.

I don't have any atheist friends. And christianity HAS NO merit. Next?

Actually, it's the opposite. My friends would laugh if I said, after all these years, that I was a Christian. Actually, they wouldn't laugh, they'd support me, but still. More inclined to laugh with the opposite of the question.

Considering that we are a smaller percentage and most of us have friends that are largely believers, no. My friends are all believers of one form or another. (And it has no merit btw.)

Most of us are not children...and most people hopefully outgrow the fear of being laughed at by their friends...
