My husband knows how to play the bass, and he is starting to learn how to play the guitar. He and I talked about how nice it would be to be able to play together and we figured bass guitar was a good way to start. Now I am looking to find some help on getting started.

Do u get along well? Would he be able to teach u or would that be a cause of marital disharmony? U know about callouses on the fingers and not having long nails at least on ur left hand? U obviously have access to a bass, so go for it. Start with the root note of the chord, and the note a fourth below it, eg: D as the root, A as the fourth below. This will give u a simple bass line (a bit like country music). Work on playing these notes smoothly for a chord pattern that ur husband plays, and see how it goes. Hope this helps, and all the best.

The best way is a once a week teacher, hands down the best way to learn. But if you can't afford it either get a good book, or DVD or take lessons off the computer, just go to google and type in learning the bass guitar, and you'll be surprised at how many sites will come up, good luck !!!!!!

If you want a cheap way to understand guitar at home, downloadable guitar classes are a easy and apparent selection but for years, Jamorama, https://tr.im/NO8Sl has been a front-runner in this industry, giving quality multimedia guitar instruction as you are able to obtain to your computer.
Jamorama offers a good choice of lessons and is certainly a great pick for a beginning guitarist. Jamorama's video content is all in good HD quality, and their main trainer, Mark McKenzie, does a great job covering the basic principles in an easy-to-understand and user-friendly way.

he could probably show you like basic techniques, bc it is a real bummer to start off on the wrong foot and have to go back and redo the basics. As with every instrument and type of music, listen to a lot of music with bass that you like, listen to bassists who play prominent lead parts, rythmic parts and everything inbetween, and find what you like, bc the more you listen the more ideas you will get, listen to everything, rock pop funk metal jazz etc bc listening will help you a lot
and dont forget to practice
listening is easy tho bc you can do it anytime anywhere
also learn to play your favorite basslines
sorry if this is too hard to make sense of good luck bass is so awesome guitarists dont know what theyre missing

There are tons of good beginners books out there, teaching you the basics, and since your hubby plays, he can go thru the lessons with you making sure your technique is right. Go to your local music store, or amazon.com and find a beginners bass book-preferably one that come with a cd to play along with! Have fun!
