Bi-Polar Disorder is a chemical imbalance in the brain. It's not likely that you could have prevented it. It's not your fault, you're not crazy, and with the proper medication and counseling, you'll live a fairly normal life.

Bi-polar is no one's FAULT.
No more than being born with curly hair, or straight hair.
Rather, Bi-polar is a PHYSICAL CONDITION. That is just how your body is wired.

It really doesn't matter who you are, EVERYBODY out there has SOME PART THAT DOESN'T WORK RIGHT.

Bi-polar........I really prefer to call it by its former name "manic-depressive".......describes the two extremes that your brain and your body swing to and from. When manic, there is lots of excitement and a great urgency to do things. But, every time you experience this, you know that it's only a while until you feel the sad, slow, sinking feeling, as if nothing will work out, and you can't do anything right, sometimes feeling the world is practically coming to an end.....that's the depressive side or "pole". Bi means 2 and polar means side or extreme opposite. Bipolar

What you are dealing with is a chemical malfunction in your body. That is why your Dr. will prescribe medication, to help you even out your highs and lows, so you can live with a more even mood, somewhere in the middle. It is so important to begin taking the medicine and KEEP TAKING IT.
The people who have the strongest problems, that sometimes land them in the hospital, are the people who stop taking their medication.

NO. I was diagnosed 6 years ago at 22. It is the same as having high cholesterol or diabetes. Sometimes genes do that to you. NO MATTER WHAT experiment with your doctors help on medicine it may take a couple of years to find the exact right combination or dosage but it WILL save your life. You are not crazy. I am very successful and overall have a very good life but I must follow my psychiatrist's advice. If you do not like your psychiatrist find a new one prior to leaving. A good book is "Loving someone with bipolar disorder" it will help you and your family/friends understand your disease and cope with it.

No it is so not your fault, and you are not crazy! These things happen! It is usually a genetic factor. I thought I could get away from the genes, but I couldnt. I have severe depression. I tried to deny it for years because I didnt want to have to take meds and I swore that I wasnt crazy. I couldnt have a mental illness no way! I got into alot of trouble, and was court ordered to seek therapy, and to take whatever meds my therapist saw fit. I have been doing both, and I now realize that no I am not crazy, some of my brain neuro transmitters dont work the way they are supposed to. Thats not my fault! Nor is being bi-polar your fault!

Trust me sweet heart it is not your fault, you can't prevent it but you can treat it. Bipolar is a chemical imbalance, and usually shows up in people around you age. It helps to have friends and family to help and support you, they can tell you if they start to notice changes in your behavior that can help your doctor treat you, just remember they are there to help you and want the best for you. I will pray for you often, Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. KJV

NO! it is NOT your fault. I am 16, and i was diagnosed with depression when I was 14. People think I am crazy and should be in a pshyc ward...but I know its not my fault. Anyways, it is not your fault. Research shows that bipolar is a chemical imbalance in the brain, along with depression. No one can help it if they have a chemical imbalance.

My brother is bipolar and for the most part no I dont think you could, however I want you to consider how you feel when you are engaged in an activity you enjoy or that really interest you. My guess would be that when engaged in activity you do not exhibit symptoms

Honey, these things are not ones fault. It’s a chemical thing. And it has to do with the nature of life. We all have some kind of something. However, you must always do what you must to control it...as best as you can like medication.Learn to really know your the feelings you have inside always. Good luck and don’t blame yourself and start learning to deal with all this. Good luck

No darlin you couldn't prevent it. Its a chemical thing in the brain, doesn't have anything to do with being"crazy". The brain is a complex thing that isn't fully understood. Its not your fault.
