dry because if he does not eat it all immediately it will attract bugs which the dog may eat. some bugs carry worms.
dry food generally has tooth cleaning effect as well.
neither is more nutritous than the other.
if it has dental problems then mix with canned or pure canned, but put away what it does not eat.

You can give your dog both and it won't be harmful. The key is to look at the ingredients to the food, meat should be a main ingredient. You can give your dog dry with a little bit of canned or canned with a little bit of dry or one or the other. Or give canned as a treat. An awesome treat for dogs is carrots though most dogs love them, and they are healthy for them too. If you still are unsure ask your veterinarian they are a great resource for the maintenance of your pets health. I would stick with a main brand like science diet, eukanuba, Purina, etc those brands have been tested to be sure that your pet is getting the nutrition they need.

neither - feed your dog as nature intended. Do some research into dog biology and what is actually in pet food and you will soon change the way you feed your pets.
Feeding your dog raw meat, bones and offal is a lot cheaper than buying artificial food. Find a friendly butcher and some freezer bags. Look for things that have been marked down in price - those with a day or two shelf/fridge life. I bag into one meal packs and pull one out of the freezer every night. It defrosts in the fridge and I feed it to the dog and cats the next night. Couldn't be easier.
The guide below is a good starting point.

Dry food is generally better. I only mix in a little canned food every now and then as a treat. Dry food is better for dental health as the chewing action cleans their teeth and prevents excessive tartar and plaque build-up. Also, be sure your dog have plenty of chew toys for dental health and has dental cleanings done when recommended by your vet.

I personally think that every once in a while ( once -MAYBE twice a week) feed the dog canned food with the dry dog food. I personally feel that dry food is the better choice. It would seem to me that it keeps their teeth and gums healthy. ( This is strictly my opinion)
If you are unsure, talk to a vet that you trust and have him/her explain the reason behind the choice of one over the other.

While I was raising and working cattle dogs, they got a ration of dry food in the morning and dry food at night. They were given wet food every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but it is mostly up to you and your budget. Wet food can be a staple food or a treat.
As for my preference, I like mostly dry food for working dogs.

Dry but a good brand if possible. I know that canned dog food sometimes goes through dogs a little quick...making them smelll and messy to clean up after.
Real meat (pet mince or other) and bones are good as well if your budget permits.
You can also cook up rice and pet mince together and throw in a few vegies. Most dogs like that

He can tolerate dry food, canned food only can give him the runs. In my experience the best was mixing the two together.
