In America, the Korean War has always been known as "The Forgotten War." I'm not exactly sure why, except that it occurred just 5 years after WW2, it wasn't a world war, and it was the first war that America didn't outright win, or wasn't on the winning side. Also, there is a lot more live film of the Vietnam War and it was covered heavily in American media during the war. footnote: There was a cease-fire armistice signed in July, 1953 which stopped the fighting, but there was never a treaty signed that ended the war. So officially, the Korean War has never been declared over and is still in a state of cease-fire.

A lot of family and friends sent pot through the mail and pain killers. We would get mail about once a week. Back then mail was not screened, so just about anything got sent to try to ease the pain not only physical but mentally. Top brass knew about it and they even took part of the mailing process. Of coarse you won't get anyone to admitt it today. Most of the Vietcong were on drugs and we took what they had after killing them and also there were stock piles in the villages that were taken over by US soldiers. Many hospitals were blown up and drugs were taken from what was left.
All soldiers had morphin on them or I should say most had quite a bit on them because there wasn't always a medic around to administer it. If we knew one of our buddies weren't going to make it on the front lines we would overdose them so they wouldn't have to go through the tourcher of what the Vietcong would do to them.
If you weren't dead they would drive stakes through your eye balls, cut your balls off,
put you in a pit with snakes and scorpions,
shove a knife down your mouth, and so on.
Sincerely yours
Fred M. Hunter

You must be nuts. They bought their drugs from the locals. And yeah, the ones that were usually high could be a problem, but then again you knew who they were and who to watch out for.

Thank you Fred for telling it the way it
was. I wasn't there, but I lived thru it.
these kids don't have a clue what war
is all about. My brother (and many
others) came home but were never the
same. My brother died an early death
from drinking himself to death. I never
saw him smile once when he came home.

Back then, drugs were rapidly becoming mainstream in American society. Seems most young people were experimenting.

No you wouldn't. You would go out and kill the people who are trying to kill you and after if you are still alive you would freak out.
