Aloha Miranda,

Well, you certainly got some honest answers. Let's see if I can summarize all the answers to your question: "What's the single biggest reason for believing in your religion?"

- because I was born into it. It's what my parents taught me.
- because I believe the bible
- because it makes me feel good to believe
- because believing just feels right
- because I'm scared of not believing (Pascal's Wager)
- because I'm scared of change and religion is unchanging
- because my life would be empty without Jesus
- because I want to
- I don't know, I just do

"The great trouble is that the preachers get the children from six to seven years of age and then it is almost impossible to do anything with them."
— Thomas Edison, (1847-1931)

There is no absurdity so obvious that it cannot be firmly planted in the human head if you only begin to impose it before the age of five, by constantly repeating it with an air of great solemnity.
— Arthur Schopenhauer

Give me child until the age of six and I will give you a Nazi for life.

Just think of the tragedy of teaching children not to doubt.

It is an interesting and demonstrable fact, that all children are atheists and were religion not inculcated into their minds, they would remain so.
— Ernestine Rose

Finding that no religion is based on facts and cannot be true, I began to reflect what must be the condition of mankind trained from infancy to believe in error.
— Robert Owen

I am now convinced that children should not be subjected to the frightfulness of the Christian religion.... If the concept of a father who plots to have his own son put to death is presented to children as beautiful and as worthy of society's admiration, what types of human behavior can be presented to them as reprehensible?
— Ruth Hurmence Green

Religion is the masterpiece of the art of animal training, for it trains people as to how they shall think.
— Arthur Schopenhauer

It is difficult, none the less, for the ordinary man to cast off orthodox beliefs, for he is seldom allowed to hear the other side.... Whereas the Christian view is pressed on him day in and day out.
— Margaret Knight

Inspect every piece of pseudoscience [and religion], and you will find a security blanket, a thumb to suck, a skirt to hold. What have we to offer in exchange? Uncertainty! Insecurity!
— Isaac Asimov

Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible was written. And it is these ignorant people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking among us, who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all; who would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us; who would invade our schools and libraries and homes. I personally resent it bitterly.
— Isaac Asimov, 1994

Illusions die hard and it is painful to yield to the insight that a grown-up can be no man's disciple.
— Sheldon B. Kopp

"No Gods -- No Masters."

what your asking is a good question. However, you must remember that religion is based on faith and faith is to be shared with others but also a very personal, spiritual walk with the Lord. To answer your question, I believe in my religion because Ive prayed to God he has answered my prayers concerning my family and my life. You can't deny something you've never tried and Ive tried Christianity and it works for me.

Single biggest reason for not wanting to believe in Christianity is how different the religion is from people to people. I even got different answers from the preacher and his wife whose job is to spread Christianity!!!

Another reason, is how hypocrite the Christians are, for example:
1 - Some of them don't believe in death penalty because it is so cruel, well their religion preaches about death penalty.
2 - Some of them are gay and lesbians, their religion preaches to not be G/L and preaches about punishing them.
3 - They say Islam is cruel for the "stoning" punishment for married people who commit adultery, then we find their relgion preaches for stoning!!

if I'm honest with myself, I'd say I have been brought up in the faith and have always trusted God for everything. I feel His presence in my life and I know the standard for right and wrong that God has set for us is also my standard. He becomes more real to me everyday even though I often question whether or not he really cares what I do or think.

Also, It makes logical sense to me that God is the creator of the universe....no other explanation for our existance holds water.

Because after reading the scriptures i prayed to know if they were true and if the religion I was in was true. i felt a feeling immediately telling me that it was true and that I am at the right place. The Spirit told me it was true just like the bible says it will and we should pray and ask God for knowledge ( james 1:5 )
Thats how I know because God told me Himself through the Holy Spirit.

The biggest reason why I believe, is because I can feel how much Jesus loves me (even before I found out He died to cleanse my sins) It is unlike any other love in the world! Jesus is so awesome!!

The fact that Jesus died for little ol' me so that I can have eternal life in heaven. Also, I don't refer to myself as a christian. I am a born again believer filled with the holy spirit.

The Lord has let me know He is God and in my life on many occasions. Even with this truth in my life I am not able to remain sinless. Sinful nature is great and God's grace and mercy is greater.
