I just got him from the kennel a few hours ago, he has his kennel cough shot. I think maybe he might have a peice of rubber in his throat. What should I do??

depending on how long he has been coughing, it could be something really basic, such as a piece of rubber or something.
now taking to him to the vet would be rather stupid if you arnt totally sure what it is and if its a big deal or not, plus they charge extra for emergencies.
anyways make sure the dog has plenty of water to drink.
if the coughs are non-stop every second sounds than thats something you may need to worry about.

Does your doggie like other dogs?

Doe he like to bark at other doggies?

I'm asking because my Jack Russell Terrier always barks at other dogs. When he goes to the Kennel he barks and barks and barks. We usually ask the kennel to put him on the end - and they do, but he still barks and barks.

So, after a week of barking - we bring him home and he usually coughs. His throat is very sore. And he coughs and coughs a lot.

What from? He used his voice so much by barking, he's got himself hoarse!

That's why I asked if your dog like other dogs - or barked at other doggies. He may just be hoarse.

Or your dog could have Kennel Cough - how long ago did he have his Kennel Cough shot? Was it more than a couple of weeks and less than 11 months?

Remember, after an immunization shot, the dog needs about 2 weeks to build up some immunity to the disease. Otherwise the shot is worthless.

So, if your doggie is not hoarse - bring him to the Vet tomorrow. and Good Luck.

is it a really dry-sounding cough? It might be kennel-cough. My dog had it once. I checked with a friend who was a vet-tech. Her suggestion was Robitussin (cough-suppressant only) dosed down to his weight (50 lbs) I gave him a scant teaspoon 2 times a day. Most dogs can get rid of it in a few days. If they can't, it's not kennel-cough.

It could still be kennel cough... my dogs just came down with it even though they had their shots 8 months ago. According to my vet, the shots should really be given every 6 months, especially if your dog interracts with other dogs.

He might also have worms. You need to have a vet check him out just in case. If he has worms it can eventually kill your dog. If its kennel cough the not much you can do. A vet can tell you for sure what he has. If its rubber then get him to the vet ASAP. It can obstruct his airway and kill him.

Bring him to the vet immediately, juz to be sure nothing is obstructing his airway. Even if he has a shot for kennel cough, he might still be susceptible to it when his immune system is down. Vet is your best bet for now.

Take him to a doggy doctor (sometimes referred to as a "vat").
