M organa, as you can see, even ethyl's answer does NOT answer the question in the slightest. Chanting, drumming, black clothing, black cats, black candles, drying herbs, doing rituals during the full moon. NONE of these is an evil act at all. A wierd priest who "crosses himself" every time he walks by the house IS, however the evil is being performed by the Priest, NOT the Witch. He's "castiing" his OWN spell of protection, based on the assumption that the Witch is going to try and harm him. Ethyl herself is committing an evil act by being a nosy neighbor and a peeping Tom.
As for the other posts, they are SO flaky that they're ludicrous at best. The answerer about the Celtic Witches wearing pointy hats and striped socks is just ONE example of stereotyping. In what way does how a person dresses determine whether or not a person is evil or not? A witches cauldron is NOT filed with evil potions, It is filled with a little bit of sand, a charcoal block that's burning and herbs or incense are added onto the burning charcoal as sacrred incense. No more, no less. Is the priests censor in a Church filled with evil potions? NO. It's filled with a charcoal block and incense is aded onto the burning charcoal. What's the Difference? The priest Chants during a High Mass. The chants are prayers in a musical form. A Witch chants, the chants are prayers in a musical form. The witch has other witches show up at her house to worship. The priest has other Christians show up at HIS house of worship to do the same. The Witch gets ill and calls her fellow Wiccans to come and pray for her good health. A Christian gets ill and calls for HER Christian friends to pray for HER good health. WHERE is the evil? You haven't demonstrated it in any way, what so ever.
The Witch is evil because he/she rrejected Jesus? WE can turn that right around on YOU. YOU Christians are EVIL, because YOU have rejected Goddess and God. YOU are evil because you claim dominion over the Earth and ALL upon it, rather than accepting youTRUE role as merely a PART of the Earth. You do NOT have dominion over the Earth and she proves it every single day through the weather, your OWN pet's behavior, by Earthquakse, Tsunami's, Volcanoes, failed crops and famines, Droughts, floods, in fact every "natural disaster" of inconvenience that the Earth can throw at you. You have as much dominion over the Earth as I have over the Sun. Only I know that I can't turn the sun off and back on. YOU won't even allow yourselves to acknowledge the fact that you have ZERO dominion over anything, not even yourselves.
So far, NO Christian has answered this question to ANY degree of validity or truthfulness. ALL you have brought up here, is nothing but stereotypes, superstitions, and your OWN bigotry based feelings.
Brightest Blessings,
Raji the Green Witch
Good question, Morgana. I missed seeing your questions fro the last few days. I hope that you've not been ill. Good to see you again (((Hugs)))

My grandfather got cursed by a witch, and she was a member of the family! That curse worked too, poor fool. However, most men and women accused and killed for practicing "witchcraft" were simply healers or worshippers of nature. I think a lot of the fear lies in ignorance. I think there are evil forces some people dabble with and use to hurt others but "witchcraft" isn't the only way to hurt someone, and I don't see most people who call themselves "witches" or pracitioners of magic as looking to harm others. God may have disapproved of humans using these powers because often God isn't the focus of these practices, but that's a matter of debate.

Christians have a fantasy image of a witch, probably formed from movies and fictional literature and imagine the witch committing evil in a solitary setting at midnight...

My beautiful sister, this is a great question but unfortunately the answers are not going to befit the question. Ariel's answer was right on. That's about the validity of the argument against Witches.

the word evil comes from the catholics and used by the christians.... good from my religion, evil not my religion.... but when we look beyond religion at life at nature we see right and wrong... once seeing that we can then look back and see that good and evil have nothing to do with reality, much good comes from non christian sources... like freedom of religion is to prevent the christians from burning or hanging people accused of things like witchcraft.... from reality point of view, murder is evil... but christians still accept it done in the name of their religious beliefs... that is why their own book calls THEM hypocrites.....

No offense, Lady Morgana, but did you really expect coherent responses? I mean, you addressed the question to Christians. If they were able to reason effectively, then they would be Christians.

My name is Ethyl...I am a 67 yr old Christian woman and my neighbor is a witch! I have seen some very strange things i can tell you!
One day i happened to mention that the moon was awfully bright the previous night...I know because i was kept awake most of the night listening to the strange drumming and chanting coming from her house!
Weel i am sure she hexed me right then and there because she mumbled something about days and times and horizon's~ She can see my death i would say!
All the clothes on her line are black! Whell what does that tell you HMMM???
She buys black candles in cartons! I know because i saw her unload them from the car while i was watering my roses!
She has a black cat too! And i have seen her hugging her trees and talking to her plants! Not to mention her clothes line often has big bunches of herbs drying on it instead of clothes! Goodness knows what they are...She never goes to the doctor..instead if she is feeling poorly carloads of other witches in strange clothes turn up at her place and that horrid chanting begins again!
But to answer your question....I saw her outside one winters night and she was sitting crossed legged with her eyes closed in front of a big black pot...i am assuming it is her cauldron full of all sorts of evil things! And~~She was naked! I know because i peeped out of my laundry window~ Where she thought no one could see her!Ha !!!~weeell that was my proof!
Nothings gone right for me ever since!
Evil Witches should not be able to live in towns and should be marked with a Scarlett letter i say!
Yours in Christ, Ethyl
Oh and i forgot that the Jehovah ladies never stop at her house and the catholic priest from down the road always crosses himself when he walks past her gate!
From a concerned Citizen of a god fearing country.
Ethyl

i know this is directed to christians but...
i've never seen any witches do anything evil.
wiccans believe you can do as you will, only if no harm is done.
i believe christians should live by that quote.

Lady Morgana, you are human, you sin, I sin, although I don't practice witchcraft. I am Christian, but I can't hate you, because if I do, then I hate myself.
It is the sinning the occult, that is the problem, that it is against God. I dont' care who you are or what you do in life as a person, you are still a person but if someone does care about your practice that means they care about you that they are trying to point you to God. That's all. It's up to you, dear.
