I cannot tell you much, if he doesn't want to be on his meds.
Just know that you cannot stop any behaviour, he hast to.
That goes from the racing thoughts, the irratic behaviour, the spending or drinking, or even his thoughts of suicide. If he voices suicidal thoughts then you can call someone for help asap.

Unfortunately, sometimes you really can't help them if they won't accept your help. However, you can do your best to continue to be supportive while this is going on. Just keep a close eye on him to make sure he stays safe and doesn't do anything irrational (I know that is hard to say when someone is manic because almost everything they do is pretty irrational, but just look out for him). Have the number of his doctor readily available as well as the local crisis line. If it comes to a point where he is threatening suicide or anything like that, don't be afraid to get him to a hospital for evaluation and possible admission. It doesn't make you a bad person...you are just doing what you can to get him the help he needs.

My dad is also bi polar , maybe tell him a prerequisite to marriage is taking his medication and seeing doctor. Also maybe you can go to therapist and psychotherapist with him. Make the appointment yourself when you know that he can go and then just take him. If you marry him before he gets help I believe legally you can put him in a mental rehab, his parents maybe able to do it also.
Good Luck
*also my dad was able to get social security with no hassle at all if he is worried about his job until he gets this situation taken care of* you can still work and get social security up to a certain amount

He will crash like most people with Bipolar Disorder. As you know, there isn't much you can do to stop him. If he means that much to you, be there to pick up the pieces and hope he learns to take his condition more seriously in the future.
Bipolar usually skips a generation. Don't know why.

Get out now. If he won't take his meds or see a Dr., he is headed for certain disaster and he will take you with him. Also, this condition is hereditary. Do you want bi polar children?

Go to bipolar disorder, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 5: print/copy, or refer him. Make the continuation of the relationship conditional on the maintenance of prescribed medication (use reminders, memos, & alarms, etc.). Get him to make an appointment in your presence. If he fails to comply, ask yourself if you want your life to become a living hell.
