anymore? Hasn't marriage become outmoded if you lose half of your money and property for a few days that may not even be fun?

I am sure God did not foresee how men would be treated in the 21st century, where women wanted to take advantage of him.

LOL, it only makes sense if you're a gold-digging female. But, they are not all like that. Like diamonds, you gotta dig through a lot of mud to find the gems. Don't marry until you know, beyond a reasonable shaddow of a doubt, that she is the 'right one'. I like the old Irish method. The Irish recognised a one year trial marriage, called handfasting. If, after one year, you still weren't sure, you could renew the handfasting. Usually a person knows in the first year or two if it's going to work. Afte that, you're on your own. One thing I find to my advantage: I'm not a man of means, so there is nothing for them to sue me for in a divorce case. They're usually happy to get away with all that they brought into the relationship. And, yes, I've had a few; and all but the current one didn't work, in the long run.

You need to look in different places for women. Not all are out to "take" you. Many men only date women that have the ability to contribute to the relationship. And then, there is my sister. Her husband came up with a bad heart very early in life and has passed away now. She had six children and supported the entire family quite willingly. If you have so much to lose and don't trust your choice of spouse, then don't marry. However, I also think you can live with someone for a lifetime and really not know them. There are always surprises, especially if you make someone mad. Pre-nup. . .

Sadly, more than half of all marriages end in divorce... and divorce is ugly. There are good reasons for being married, though. Statistics show that married people live longer, enjoy a better standard of life, and have less chance for contracting sexually transmitted diseases (provided they are monogamous). So it isn't all bad. The trick is finding the right mate in the first place... someone that won't divorce you in 5 days and run off with your stuff.

I think you have to be married a lot longer then a few days before your partner could take anything.

You can do a marriage contract however if you don't trust the person that you would have to do that I would see that as a sign not to get married.

Be sure to date someone for a few years before getting married. If he cheats, lies, steals, gets angry a lot these are also signs that he would not make a good marriage partner.

It just proves that the adage, "marry in haste, regret forever" is true. Marriage should not be "a lark" entered into rashly and without time to get to know the man/woman you are considering marriage with.

Since being honorable and honest is no longer the norm, the legal system created "prenuptial agreements" to protect both parties, as a legal fail-safe.

Personally, if someone feels the need for a pre-nuptial agreement, then they need to rethink marriage in my opinion.

A woman doesn't get half of the mans' money after a few days. She generally can get half of the marital property aquired after their marriage.
I know of a woman who worked two jobs and put her new husband through law school, after cheating on her as she was out working till wee hours, he then turned around and divorced her when he graduated. Is that fair?

A guy can marry a woman, then divorce in a few days, and take half her assets. Doesn't that mitigate the threat you hypothesize?

How sad that you have reduced marriage to a tool for asset acquisition and management.

Who hurt you?

You must be young . . it doesn't happen that way. The woman has to prove that marrying you gave her a certain lifestyl and that divorcing you raook that lifestyle away. I have never seen spousal support for less than a 5 yr marriage.

Child support is a different story. If you make it, you need to pay for it.

I am a male and I could marry a woman with lots of money and get half of her goodies. Fine with me; I don;t have anything.
