hi there my future husband has taken out a loan for 1500 and we are wanting to elope here in california. near oceanside or modesto because i live here in modesto and he lives in oceanside. so i was wondering if you guys could find something for me so that we could get our license and get married by a judge or an officient for about 100-150 that would be great because we are using the loan for rings (mine will be 859 and his will be 129) we were going to use the rest of the loan on getting married and then on buying things for our future home. so if you guys could let me know anything at all that would be great. or if you could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it! thanks!

i forgot to mention that i wont have to pay for a house because my future husband is in the marines and they give us a house to live in while he is in active duty. so i dont have to pay for that. we have thought about this very much so and we are certain about this. this is just going to be our elopement we are going to have a fairytale wedding later when he gets out of the service.

Go to the courthouse in Modesto and inquire - it is generally very inexpensive to get married by the justice of the peace.

I'm having a 'planned elopement' in 2 1/2 weeks. It's going to be $100 for the ceremony, but that's in Little Nashville, Indiana, so it might not be comprable. We're spending $300 (splitting the cost with 2 other couples- total cost is about $890) for a weekend cabin rental. My dress was $15.90 at Kohl's, he's wearing clothes he already has (he'll get new boots and I've still got to pick out shoes). My ring will be $250, and his $25 (He's getting a very basic white-gold band, because he can't wear it to work so he'll hardly ever have it on anyway, and I'm getting an emerald set in silver). A license in Indiana is only like $20 (so I'm told-we haven't gotten it yet).

I would think that your $1500 would be plenty to cover an elopement, so long as you don't go overboard (which, to me, it sounds like you are leaning far past the railing in the ring department). If your spend exactly what you say you will here, then you will only be left with $400 for your future home, which is not much at all. That will buy you one good mixer, or a microwave and a blender. That's about it.

You'll have to go to the county that one of you lives in to get the certificate, and then either have the judge in that county marry you (some judges preform weddings, some won't) or look in the phone book or online to find a minister in your area.

Depends on what you want to do when you elope - some people go to an exotic destination and elope there so they can spend a few days enjoying each other's company as newlyweds, others go to their local courthouse and have a justice of the peace marry them. I'm not sure how much a basic ceremony at the courthouse would be, but I'm sure you could look up the phone number to call and ask :)

I hate to burst your happy bubble, but... You're starting your married life on a very small amount of borrowed money and using over half of it for your ring alone. Wouldn't you be just as married with a simple (and inexpensive) gold band? And then you're using "the rest" to buy things for your future home. "The rest" MIGHT put a few things in the kitchen but not much. Where are you going to live? Have the two of you really thought about this realistically? If you really want to be pointed in the right direction, then back up and make sure you've really thought this through. A better plan will often result in a better relationship.

The cost of the marriage license depends on where you live.
