I suspect my estranged husband was using but not totally sure. What are the signs, behavior patterns, etc? Also, do you believe marijuana use is the gateway to harder drug use?

First of all, opinions vary, but I feel marijuana is often used as the escape goat or excuse for people going on to harder drugs, but by that reasoning, caffeine and wine also lead to heroin addiction. A coke head would probably use marijuana to calm down, but would also drink alcohol and smoke tobacco more often too. Millions of people smoke pot their entire lives and never do any hard drugs. People drink beer and wine and don't necessarily go on to hard liquor and alcoholism. Our society likes to make excuses and place blame...
As for cocaine use, there are definitely often certain telltale signs, but it is also possible to hide the signs or outwardly appear "normal." Keep that in mind.
Edgier than usual, weight loss, loss of usual appetite habits, trouble sleeping, nosebleeds or redness around the nostrils, crankiness, sudden change in mood (after a secret hit) more rapid than usual speech, a general hyperness, and money problems. You could research and find out more details, but I think you get the idea.
If you "suspect" chances are your instincts are right. I had a similar experience; never found out if coke, crack, meth (which is epidemic in our country) was involved, but the signs and symptoms were there. Cocaine is really bad news on so many levels, it will sooner or later really mess a person's life up, and the lives of those around them, in so many ways, luckily you are "estranged" and not involved anymore.

Cocaine - glossy eyes, irratic behavior, including unusual angry spurts, sneaking around, saying they have to work late and they aren't at work. More visible: money missing from checking account, items missing from around the house because they are being sold, things being pawned, and let's not forget losing their paycheck, on payday. My ex was using.

As far as marijuana being a gateway, maybe to kids, maybe they think that one's ok, so why not try something else others are trying? It does do harm to developing brains - anyone under the age of 18. That is scientific fact.

i he just got high on the **** he will feel very excited and act his eyes will also be red. marijuana is said not to be a gateway drug but usually stoners will try other drugs or get into other drugs. If you only smoke weed a couple times a year you probably will not start using other drugs but i am sure it may be possible.

It depends on what kind of cocaine it is.

If it is powder his pupils will be dialated, lack of appetite, lots of energy, talkative, can't sit still, etc.

If he is smoking crack cocaine he will appear to be lethargic and intoxicated.

It is amazing to me how the same drug can be so different when prepared and used differently.

Marijuana can be a gateway drug but not always. When you talk about humans, you have to realize that everyone is different.

Weight loss, dark circles around the eyes, easily angered, either way up or really down (energy levels), big change in personality and shortage of money to name a few.
I do not believe that pot is a gateway to harder drug use. People make that choice on their own.
Sorry about your man. I hope you get through this.

Not being able to sit still, white powder on nose, itchy, loss of weight. etc.

No marijuana is not a gateway and people should stop using it as an excuse. It's no more harmful than a glass or wine or a cigarette. Actually, it's better
