If they have a reduced space it is possible to beat a large army by taking them one at a time. Queen Boudica lost almost the same way against the Romans 230,000 brits against 10,000 Romans

"Based on real events" is a very loose term. There was a battle. The Spartans made their stand. Beyond that, pretty much everything comes from the imagination of the writer and director.
The Spartans didn't exactly win. They sacrificed their lives to buy more time so that more reinforcements could be called up. Anyway, this battle wasn't the decisive victory for the war. (That came latter, and it was a naval victory). It was an amazing, heroic episode, but there's more to the story.
(Incidentally, the Athenians with their superior economic clout probably had as much, if not more, to do with the Greeks being able to successfully repel the Persians. Superior battle training isn't the only thing you need to win a war.)

They obviously didn't study their history. But if they meant that mutant freaks with a piercing fetish were not in the Persian army, then they're right.
But the Battle of Thermopylae did happen.
The facts (as far as we can tell) are that around 1000 Greeks (including the 300 Spartans), give or take, held off the entire Persian army (maybe 300,000-500,000 but some estimate a few million) at a narrow (less than 100 feet) pass and did inflict heavy casualties with some estimates at 20,000-30,000. Then the Greeks were outflanked (when the Persian army were lead through a small pass around them) and the Greeks were annihilated.

I have not seen the movie yet. However, The History Channel recently had a special on the Battle of Thermopylae. It was very interesting and well done.
In 1962 there was a movie called, "300 Spartans". It's a pretty good account of this battle. I recommend it !

It is about 1/4 true. 300 of the best Spartans (all with sons to carry on their name) and 1,500 other Thracians/Greeks faced about 300,000 or more Persians. King Xerxes existed, but not as a metro freak, but he did watch the battle like a football game from his throne. There were no monsters and such. Leonidas was slain in battle and fellow Spartans rescued his body until they were shot down by arrows. They killed so many Persians during the Battle of Thermopylae and Artemisium that it bought time for other Spartans to destroy them during the Battle of Plataea (ending scene) until the final naval battle of Salamis in Cyprus. And instead of Stelios, a Spartan heroi Dienekes said "We will fight in the shade" ;)
There were no monsters...

Yes. Movies are not based on true stories or true happenings, or true events of things. It may be exagerated or maybe lack of things tht actually happened. The movie is just for relaxation to satisfy viewers from viewing the same. And that is one of attracking the expectators.

It is a film, based on a comic, based on the biased accounts of Dilios, based on completely biased secondhand accounts from biased historians, based on an actual event. As you can see, there is no historical value in this motion picture.

the movie was based on a comic book that was based on the actual event. the comic book changed things to make it more excited and fantastic and the movie took it even further.
