Genesis
1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
(By this point God divided light from darkness)

1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
(By now God has created light, which he called DAY)

1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
(Oddly, God AGAIN divides light from darkness?)
(By this point God created the stars)

1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
(Oddly, God only by this point creates the sun and moon)
(The light that separates day from night is the light that shines from the sun, but oddly he created the sun by this point, which is after he created light?)
(God created the lesser light to rule the night “the moon”, but in reality the moon has no light, the light is merely reflected from the sun.)

1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth

1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
(God again divides light from darkness for the 3rd time!!)

Sorry, you just can't comprehend the English language.
The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

(God created the lesser light to rule the night “the moon”, but in reality the moon has no light, the light is merely reflected from the sun.)

Don't understand, do you? He created the moon... to reflect the light of the sun.... when the sun is not in the sky......now do you get it?

Genesis 1:3-5 (notes) *light. Not the sun (which was created on the fourth day, v. 16), but some fixed light source outside the earth. In reference to that light, the rotating earth passed through a day-night cycle.

Genesis 1:14-19 (notes) The light source of the first day was replaced by the sun and moon. Their purposes were to distinguish day and night, to be signs (by which men get their bearings, as well signs of judgment, Matt. 24:29), to mark off the seasons, and to give light to the earth.

Verses 14-19 are continuous

No I would have to disagree.

Can't there be light other than from the sun? After all, it is light in my office right now but the sun is half way around the earth. And He NEVER once said that the light from the moon was from the moon!! It simply states that there was a light to rule the night and if you ask any three year old to point to the light in the sky at night they WILL point to the moon. I'm sure that God knows about reflection.

1.3 There was light: did this light have form? where did it actually come from? he referred to it as day and the darkness night - at this time there was only light in one place and darkness another nothing in either of the two.
1.14 let there be lights put into the firmament of heaven: Now he is making things appears stars, constellation, ext... actually putting them into play so that we could divide the seasons by these signs IE... Orion's belt, Cancer, Libra .......
1.18 @ speaks of the sun, moon and their part of the system till this point there was only light for day and darkness for the night, the seasons had been added to help tell the time of season: Spring/Summer/Winter/Fall. He at this point adds the smaller details IE.. Sun to warm the individual day and Moon to for the singular night.
Thus here is the big picture: Light & Darkness first divided then Lights put into the heavenly firmament to distinguish the seasons and finially the sun and moon to set asside the days and nights throughout the years.

Sounds good on paper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CORRECTION: Your lack of research is quite evident. The ODDEST thing here is your lack of attentiveness to context.

Hmmmmmmm.......

Either you have no desire to study Gods Word, or you're too busy trying to undermine it, so that you do not see it's CONTEXT. Like so many others for over 2000 years you've failed miserably. Do you really not understand what context means? The Holy Bible is perfect in it's context, therefore Holy scripture will perfectly agree in harmony within each and every verse. One who seeks to learn and gain truth from the Holy Bible must look at ALL Holy scripture in the light of ALL other Holy scripture. If you fail to do this then you immediately fail to rightly divide the Word of Truth.

It is very clear in 1 Timothy 6:16 that God dwells in unapproachable LIGHT. Therefore it is safely concluded that since God is eternal, the light He dwells in is also eternal.

The fall of the created angel "lucifer" occurs between verse 1 and verse 2 of Genesis. THAT is why verse 2 speaks of DARKNESS on the EARTH. That's where lucifer, now the devil, was cast down to with a percentage of angels who are now demons. lucifer committed the FIRST sin. Not Eve or Adam.

Luke 10:18 And he (Jesus Christ) said unto them, I beheld satan as lightning, fall from heaven.

Remember God always was, always is, and always shall be eternally dwelling in unapproachable LIGHT. (1 Timothy 6:16)

God divides the light from the darkness ONE TIME in verse 4.
Genesis 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

In Genesis 1:14-18 God is clearly ONLY creating the MOON, the SUN, and finally the STARS, and in these verses is QUITE OBVIOUSLY AND SIMPLY explaining and differentiating the purpose of each, and they LIGHT they will provide. He is NOT dividing the light from the darkness again which he ALREADY DID in verse 4.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Verse 18 is still IN CONTEXT with Gods explanation and detailed DESCRIPTION of the PURPOSE THE MOON, SUN, AND STARS SHALL PROVIDE. ((( TO RULE OVER THE DAY, AND OVER THE NIGHT AND TO DIVIDE THE LIGHT FROM THE DARKNESS)))

That verse in CORRECT CONTEXT, NO WAY states that God is again dividing the light from the darkness as in Genesis 1:4 which only occurs ONCE. :D

Silly Atheist. Tricks are for unbelievers.

CASE CLOSED. Just another duplicate question with the same resolution when looked at in the TRUE LIGHT OF HOLY SCRIPTURE.

You make very good points, but I believe your making a big assumption: You assume the passages are completely literal.

I understand those first references to light to be metaphorical, specifically, the concept of good and evil. I believe the early passages are possibly talking about the heavenly battle in which satan was cast out of heaven along with all the demons (hence, God was separating the good from the evil, or the "light" from the "darkness".

I think that the Bible is not talking about actual, physical light until it begins references physical objects such as the sun and moon.

Gen: 1-3 the Big Bang--one big light

Gen: 1-4 gasses begin to form stars--more light

Gen: 1-5 well, space is dark and the new suns would

provide “daylight,” wouldn't they? more lights

Gen: 1-14 At this point the moon is formed, which also

“shines” and appears to give off light, again

Gen: 1-16 So this is how all the lights got there

If all things were meant for mere mortals to understand he would not be god. We do not have to make sense only follow a higher power and have the knowledge to know he is there and is never wrong. Well maybe in creating man first but even god has an off day.

WISDOM; GOD is light in him is no darkness , the sun is a reflection of GODS glory the moon is a reflection of Satan's glory there is revelation in the six days of creation but you must have the spirit of GOD to understand the things of GOD, the bible says the natural minded man cant perceive the things of GOD neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.

You are the one who doesn't make sense.

If they were not 24 hour days how did plants created on day 3, the plants which need birds to pollinate them, live millions of years until birds were created.

However if birds were created on day 5 and they were 24 hour days, that isn't a problem.
