Is there a regulation that states that officers of the same rank can call one another by their first name? If so, what is the reg?

Am in the Army, but want to find the regulation. I've been chewed out by calling fellow soldiers by their first names.

On duty you should address everyone by rank and last name. This would include officers of any rank if you are in the presence of enlisted, speaking in an official capacity or in the presence of a higher ranking officer. You may only address one another by first names in social settings away from the office.,

I'm not sure there is any regulation as to the use of first names. I did it all the time with my fellow enlisted sailors and never got chewed out for it. There were even a few officers we could acknowledge by first names but that was only on the boat and never with a senior officer present. O's greet each other with their first names all the time in the Navy. It may be more strict in the Army but then again, you guys in puke green salute indoors under cover also.

I didn't know there was a reg. In the Air Force we were on first name basis in the shop, but outside the shop we used the rank.

Their is no rule on that matter. It is just a matter of closer relationship with the same officer or higher because the nicest name to hear is the first name.
