I really want to buy really comfortable sheets like in luxury hotels. Any thread count or brand which is well known? I also would rather have a blanket instead of a comforter? Is this odd? These "bed in a bag" items seem to have the most ridiculous colors, especially for a single guy. I want to get something which would not turn off a woman, something solid? I went to Bed Bath & Beyond and they had so many things it was confusing. FYI: I have a studio apartment where the bed will be seen by anyone coming into the apartment, if that matters. Any help would be welcome. Thanks!

This is very easy I buy 1000 tc sheets sets form eBay they are the best thing I have ever done for myself. I find white sheets work the best.
Then go to Pottery Barn,or Bed Bath and Beyond find a rich type of coverlet or Mate'lase in a darker shade . I found a suede type that works for me. Next look for a nice throw for the foot of the bed that will complement

Go back to Bed Bath and Beyond. They have good quality goods. I would keep the comforter or blanket (either is fine) in a simple WOVEN pattern, not printed. Printed patterns are so tacky, and she will notice that. But also don't get a totally solid pattern, but one with some texture in it. I would probably stick to a dark, forest green, a brown, or a black/brown or black.
As for sheets, I would spend the extra money and go for at least 400 thread count, maybe more for that extra rich feel.(600 count) and all cotton, not poly/cotton. Yikes! And just get some lighter color to coordinate with the comforter/blanket. (By the way, I think blankets are fine to use instead of those heavy comforters.)
As far as brand names, if you buy it at BB and B, and it costs a bit, the name won't really matter. Most stores buy from the same companies such as Wamsutta, Springs Industries, and better brands than that. The "Biltmore Estate" pattern is impressive if you live anywhere near there, and if that is a recognizable name.
Also, you might want to buy some plants to go here and there to add a healthy touch to your room. Plants go a long way and look good just about anywhere you put them. But put them in nice containers too.

if you want high quality sheets and maybe a luxurious blanket, go to thecompanystore.com. elegantlinenspc.com, decorativevisions.com, abeautifulbed.com. If your bed shows when people enter your apartment, how about decorating the bed like a daybed? A beautiful luxurious bedspread or comforter with pillows and the bed lengthwise. Go to linensandthings.com. Click on bedding. Then click comforters and in the far right put in Nate Berkus Bedding Designs and press Go. I think for a single guy who wants to have a great looking apartment to impress, his designs are fabulous and will look so modern and contemporary in your apartment. I have a linensandthings near my home and I have seen his designs in person. He also has accessories to go with the bedding like rugs, drapes, candles, just everything. They are so well made and beautiful, so that is a great find.

The sheets I would purchase separately in thecompanystore.com. They are a great company and have beautiful high thread count sheets and good prices. Check that out. I've purchased from them and they stand by their products.

if you can find a store called Linens & Things its awesome, in one store you can find all, try to find a dark color but not too much or with a pattern (no flowers at all) and for the sheets satin or something without pattern look for at least 2 sets (one alway in the bed and the second every week you need to change the dirty one, what it turns off a woman can be a dirty bed).

The simple the best, also look for something easy to wash in your laundry machine (if not just think how much it will cost to have it clean regularly)

if you put decorative pillows they help to dress the bed wonderfull, depending on your personal style, first check on a magazine what you really like, then with the picture of it, look for the close item at a store, is pretty common to feel confuse when its a LOT to see, when you have and idea, you know what you are looking for and even you can ask for help to any salesman at any store (better than trying to describe what you look for... a picture better than 1,000 words )

hope I've been helpfull, good luck

I have found that JC Penney Co has good sheets for reasonable prices. Be careful when paying high prices for extremely high thread counts, they often start using a different counting system to get those numbers. So, touch the sheets and see whether they feel good to you, rather than relying just on the thread count. Unless you want sateen, you will find nice feeling sheets with thread counts above about 250-300.

Best to buy by the thread count. 400 + should be good. Wash several times with softener so they start to come out of the dryer unwrinkled. Sateen cotton is beautiful (NOT SATIN!) Also Egyptian Cotton is fab. You are right to go with a solid color. You could get a tone-on-tone pattern to give it a little eye appeal. Choose a sophisticated subtle color like champagne or bronze (manly)and match it with a heavy flat bed cover (Flat velveteen with a stitched in design would be cool.) bought in a size larger than your bed (have a queen? Buy a king coverlet, so you get drape on sides and bottom) Get some extra pillowcases for pillow shams..and make sure there are at least two soft pillows for each side. If you can afford it, buy down pillows, but any pillows are OK if they are shaped well, and are brand NEW! Pillows need to be replaced every six months or so if they are poly filled, and if they are down, you can have them dry-cleaned. I wash mine on gentle, but you have to be careful to super dry them, or you will get moldy feathers! (Throw them in flat, as they dry they will puff up. Run dryer a couple of times.) Also..never leave dryer running with pillows (or anything else) when you are not home. Keep watch! Your bed is going to be so cool!

go back to BBB and find a clerk to help you
skip the bed in a bag business
the higher the thread count...the more comfy
I found a solid quilted blanket(not at all puffy like a comforter) at Dillards...may have been a Ralph Lauren...and on sale it was $25
solid colors are a great idea...pick two or three and do a tailored bedskirt with the blanket in one color then the sheets in another color then two shams to match the blanket and two shams to match the sheets then accent pillow in a third color
watch HGTV for some ideas of color combinations

I find that the sheets that are included with he bed in the bag are of poor quality, try to get a 200 count thread , Martha Stuart brand is of good quality . White is always in style try to get something with a monogram or have someone decorate your sheets . I would go with white and a dark grey monogram of your initials. And try to find a blanket in the same shade of the monograms.

Go to Bed Bath and Beyond and buy a black fitted sheet, a black top sheet, black pillowcases and a black blanket. (Look online first to make it simpler.) And stay abstinent until you're married! Seriously, there are way too many STD's going around these days and women will NOT tell you the truth if they have one! HPV is highly contagious even when you are wearing a condom because it is transferred when your thighs touch your partner's!!! and there is no cure!!

400 thread count (or higher) sheets. A down-filled comforter in a duvet cover (solid colour) will give you comfort and a nice clean look,
