do the strips just wighten your teeth or do they also clean them?

They will whiten only and therefore you should do yourself the favor of using them right after you get your teeth cleaned as any staining and buildup (tartar or plaque) will impede their ability to work. Also, don't use fluoride toothpaste before putting the strips on (same reason)and don't drink or eat anything dark for 1/2 hour after using them. As a rule, you might try to drink dark liquids through a straw and don't smoke to minimize staining of your teeth. Whatever method you use it will not whiten your teeth for life, as you age your teeth will get darker and may need to be whitened again

They just whiten them. You will still need to brush twice daily. Before starting any whitening you really should have your teeth cleaned at the dentist office first. This will remove any plaque and tartar build up and you will get better results from the whitening process. Also keep in mind that if you have any white fillings or crowns these will not whiten and would need to be replaced after the whitening process is complete so they match the rest of your teeth.

They just whiten by bleaching your teeth beneath the enamel surface. You actually aren't supposed to brush your teeth right before applying the white strips. I always brushed my teeth right after, to get all the gel off.
