I am thinking about buying a new laptop, but all the ones I have seen all Win Vista on them. My question is, if I buy a system with Win Vista on it, can I buy a copy of Win XP and format the laptop and install Windows XP on it? Will it work?

Yes. Just boot from the Windows XP CD, and tell it to format the hard drive.

Yeah, you can, although you already payed for the Vista license.
You just doubled your cost. Install Xp and visit the manufacturer´s site for hardware drivers.

Cheers

Yes, But before you format. Find out what hardware you have such a videocard, sound card, printer, webcam, monitor. That way you will know what drivers you will need to download once you've installed xp.

right mouse click "My Computer"
select properties
select hardware tab
click "device manager"

shows you a list of the hardware you have. Make sure you write it down.

Absolutely. The operating system has nothing to do with the hardware comprising the PS itself.

You could even install windows 3.11... well maybe not. prolly don't have a floppy drive. :-)
