I"m sure you have encountered this somewhere. you get some old blue hair in the twelve item or less lane at the store with way more items than the lane allows. They are counting pennies out that they have been saving from like 1922, or trying to use using coupons for something they don't even have. why is this allowed? how can it be stopped? they gotta cut the crap.

I must first state that , the following are my "OPINIONS" which are not stated as facts, nor are the meant to offend.

AND that the plight of the elderly in America
is something I feel very strongly about.

If someone who has been saving pennies since 1922 can even make it TO the store on their own, they have my utmost respect( since you really wouldn't start SAVING pennies until you are
are 4 or 5 years old, that would make them 89 or 90 years old).

These people that you speak of, in such a disrespectful manner, are former doctors, nurses, teachers, police and firefighters,
lawmakers, lawbreakers, butchers, bakers, candlestick makers, tinkers, tailors, soldiers, and spies.
They have earned their place in ANY LINE THEY CHOOSE.

You, however, appear to the kind that,
leaves home ten minutes later than you should, and blames everyone else when you are late to your destination.

It seems as if you, through your own leanings or a lack of proper up-bringing, have come to believe that you are more important or that your time is more valuable,
or that you are more deserving than others.
Please remember you are not !

I have worked in retail for many years and yes it can be frustrating, waiting in line behind someone who is frail, hard of hearing, and has sight problems.
Even more so when they have more than
"SUGGESTED" number of items for the express lane( Yes it's true it is only a COURTESY not a rule)

I have even called customers over from another lane, knowing full well that they had more than 12 items, when the lanes were crowded.

More importantly;
occaisionaly it is a "Blue-Haired" old lady counting pennies and using coupons with 13 items, on a fixed income, who grew up in an era where retirement was suppsed to be a guarantee, whose income ran out when her husband died, from an illness not covered by MEDICAID or MEDICARE,who is trying to decide what to buy this month, should she buy food OR prescritions,
pay the light OR the heating bill .
Only a heartless oaf would want to belittle, ridicule, or mock these poor helpless, persons who have so little left.

BUT
MOST of the time it is the,
30 something,over dressed,
supposedly well-educated, spoiled, garden club, fitness center, tanning salon, nail salon, hair salon, home-owners association, cell phone gabbing,BMW driving soccer mom,
with 2spoiled, over indulged, little league, cheerleading, football, soccer,Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, karate, ballet, only see their parents on the way to and from day-care, confused, future therapy seeking, children, (who will have NO idea how to be a parent, since they will be raised by nannies, babysitters and daycare workers).

Who are having a hard time understanding that, just because it is marked "buy one get one free", that does not mean it counts as one item,
and firmly believe that any thing that you pick up while waiting in line, or send one of the kids back for, doesn't count either.

OR
It's the snot-nosed 16-25 year old
who is still brain dead from last nights party.
Trying to figure out "Where'd my money go"
who doesn't have I.D. trying to convince you that "I buy my cigarettes and "Blunts " here every day", and "All the other guys know I'm old enough"
and "How much are your cheapest menthol 100's"
If you want the "crap cut" why not sart in your own backyard,
leave 5 or 10 minutes earlier,
and you won't be in a rush,
slow down, look around,
enjoy your time here.
talk to an older person
and truly LISTEN, they have wisdom and experience to share with you.
Spend time with friends and family
if you don't have a family
find one

AND REMEMBER

"NO-ONE EVER WENT TO THE GRAVE
WISHING THEY HAD SPENT MORE TIME AT WORK"

Since I'm what you young people refer to as "Old People" I'd like to say a few things about "Old People". First, at one time in my life I stood just where you are now. It never occurred to me that when I reached a certain age packages would be harder to read (yes, even w/glasses on). My reflexes are slower and please remember that food is packaged very different than it used to be. My mind is slower that it once was....why we (the older) were presidents of companies, teachers, military members, and very likely some of us played an important role in some of your lives. We realize that we are slower and also we count pennys but please remember that when we were young pennies bought a lot more than it does now. Have a little patience with us because you too will be older someday and someone may tell you to "cut the crap" or "get in the right line". I do hope though that that blue hair is gone...with that I agree with you 100%. Good luck in life and try to understand that we no longer have the health and agility that you do..there is an old gravestone that says: As you are now so once was I, as I am now someday you'll be. Hope this helps you understand..

Where I shop the cashier wouldn't let someone with 30 items to check out in her lane. If the cashier hasn't started ringing them up yet, I'd ask to go ahead. If they are in the middle of checking out all you can do is wait.

Old people do all sorts of things because they feel they can get away with it since they're, well, old.

I don't mind if they take 40 items into the 12 items or less lane because I'd rather they do that than pee all over themselves or fall out in the floor because they can't make it to the bathroom or to their car in time enough.

Think about it--we're all going to be old one day. Myself, I won't take more than 12 items into the fast lane until I'm too senile to count that high..

Get real!! Some of those "old people" may be on a limited income and are only trting to save some money by using coupons (which they may have mis-read or have let expired)!

As for the twelve items or less matter: it's up to the checkout person to comment, not you! Relax and take a deep breath; you'll live longer, happier and healthier! Thanks! Good luck!

I once worked as a cashier at Target. I can tell you that it's not just the old people who do what you described. I used to see young people do it to.

I would not say anything about the money or the items. I would however not take their bad coupons. Just be firm but friendly.

It's the same as the parent who is handling two kids & way too many groceries. Or the DINK couple who are both on cell phones & keep telling each other that they've forgotten certain items.

No one pays attention to their surroundings anymore. No one really tries to communicate.

They have paid thier dues and want to make sure the rest of society knows this . I seriously think they sometimes do crap like that on purpose , it's not cute to me . And I'm really not in any hurry anywhere I go , but they push the boundary of my patience .

Old people can be some of the most belligerent jack-holes on the planet. They think they've earned respect just because they have aged. Such bullshiit.

I have seen younger people do this! I think they ripped off the granny. But a case of Ramen noodlles is 24, no matter what age you are. It is the cashiers fault for allowing this insanity.
... was the cashier blue haired?
