we are born spiritual, emotional, mental and physical..... we see the effects of emotional abuse, mental abuse, and physical abuse...... can we tell what is spiritual abuse? religion is spiritual abuse and catholics probably would want you to believe we are born without spirit cause that's when they baptize babies and kill the spirit in them... they probably hope we wouldn't notice.

Eph 2:1 and you being dead in deviations and sins,
Eph 2:2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience,
Eph 2:3 among whom we also all conducted ourselves in times past in the lusts of our flesh, doing the things willed of the flesh and of the understanding, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as the rest.

Spiritually dead or dead in sin and trespasses is our natural state at birth.
A companion verse is in Psalms 58:
Psa 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from the belly, speaking lies.

All people (born wicked, depraved) come out of the womb sinning.

I think that is incorrect. We are born with a nature that is corrupt, and when confronted with law, that is, a set of standards of right and wrong, it awakens rebellion and results in sin. Once sin is accomplished it results in spiritual death, separation from God.
I believe one verse supporting this view is Romans 7:7-10

"What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet." But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead. Once I was alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death."

Jesus and Budda both said that a person needs to be twice born. Physical birth and spiritual birth.
Hence the virgin Birth A concept lost to the fanatics.

Paul
Ephesians 2:1-2
Once you were dead, doomed forever because of your many sins. You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan, the mighty prince of the power of the air. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.

3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

4"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

(John 3)--Jesus speaking to Nicodemus

13Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

17Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. 18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

22Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24For,
"All men are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25but the word of the Lord stands forever."[c] And this is the word that was preached to you.

The above website is comprehensive. Also, there is a prophetic vision in Ezekiel 37 i believe, that shows how God sees us in our spiritual deadness. But do read the link first to understand it. God bless you.

It's an idea that began during the Reformation. Luther and Calvin came up with it.
