I have a box of fried rice mix that calls for TUB margarine specifically. I was wondering if there is really that much difference. If I just use stick margarine, what will happen?

NOthing will happen, use whatever butter you have. I don't ever put oil in cake mixes and everybody loves my cakes! It will be fine, make it and eat it!!

Stick margarine and the tub is air. Air is whipped into the tub to make it lighter. For fried rice it won't make a difference. You must use more of the tub to equal the stick.
Now............don't ever use margarine. The formula for margarine and plastic is only one item. Do you want to eat plastic. Use butter or olive oil instead.

tub margarine usually has water and a lot of air whipped into it, makes it easier to spread and cheaper for the company to make it, i would prefer stick margarine in my fried rice, use it, it will work better actually

You can use stick butter or margarine, or in the tub. It will not make a difference.

Tub margarine is just whipped and has more air in it. You can use stick margarine - just use a little less than the recipe calls for - it will just be a little more oily if you use the exact amount.

it's the same thing-go ahead. I think Tub margarine has more hydrogenation is all. You could use the sticks or butter as well.

I don't think it makes a difference in the tub or the sticks unless they actually call for REAL butter, or unsalted butter. I personally just cook w/the sticks..... it's so much easier to measure. That's the only difference to the best of my knowledge.

Are you sure that you didn't misread it for Tub but its really TBSP? You better double check, because a whole tub of margarine doesn't sound right!

stuff in a tub has air and oil whipped into it to make it softer but for that kind of application it can be used the same.
