In spite of the question title, this question is for all my brothers ostheictes out there.

Many Christians (mainly "born agains") consider its their "job" in life to deny themselves and to serve and live for God (me included).
Atheists do not believe in God (dãh), therefore they do not think its logical to live for an inexistant transendent entity.

Here is my question:

How do you feel about people who try to live for an entity that ultimately represents only Love? Is that wrong i any way? If you believed in the existence of such entity would you live for It?

Thats all i got tonight. I'm going to wait for the answers to see if the question was any good, but i think it was.

Atheists are my second favorite group in R&S (athiests are still my favorite), i want to know your opinions people, please don't insult me, it only shows ignorance when people do it (independently of their beliefs) OK?

Also, please tell me your favorite Mad Max movie

I'm no theologist, so i dont know if i made a mistake by defining God as Love. As a Christian it works pretty well for me.

God is Love, he is also Holy, personally i'm only begining to grasp what this really means, but he is, always...

I really liked all the answers though, i advice you to try to view God as being more of the Love+Holy stuff when reading/ hearing about it, even if some theists don't do it. =D

I also advice you to wach the Mad Max movies. I've seen them a long long time ago and they are very entertaining ;), lots of action. Lots of action.

Paul S - didn't your avatar have more hair? Also, I havent seen you in a while, great answer.

Himura- Mad Max is way cooler than Samurai X.

Donkey : Hard to talk about God's Love to someone whose owner was killed by his people. Still, i believe that even then there was only Love and holliness in God's heart. Also, i see no problem minding eternety and this life at once, to me it works

It's not living for love that I would object to, per se. However, to claim that love is a represented by an entity or that it's laws are written down in a book... I don't think that's really consistent with the concept, nor is it necessitated by the conept.

My wife claims to follow Love, too. She's the kindest, sweetest person you could meet. But, she isn't a Christian (she's an Atheist), and she doesn't think that love requires that you go preaching, or that you follow the Sermon on the Mound, being meek and humble. There's a certain amount of pride and honor in being a follower of love.

I've never seen a full Mad Max movie, so my opinion might be limited. From what I've seen, maybe Road Warrior?

I don't see any problem with christian living (don't agree with it, but don't see any harm) until you begin to live blindly. My mother has so much faith in her "god", that she doesn't bother to work out our finances properly and says that there is no need because "god will take care of everything". That is wrong. I think as long as christians are level-headed the way they live is society-acceptable, or atleast in my opinion. But I will add that I do not think christianity represents only love - it can turn into quite the war (on Yahoo Answers alone it's pretty bad) of beliefs. As long as you live down to earth enough, and live the way you say you should you have my respect along with most athiests.

*NOTE: Never seen a single "Mad Max" Movie.

I have an idea a rather boring existence is being outlined here. Besides, I saw the hippies out in frisco try that back in the '60s. It didn't work worth a flip. After a while of women and beer a fellow wants to brawl a little. Some of those hippies were pretty good at it too. I never heard of Mad Max. I shipped out of pedro with a guy called Mad Dog. Any kin?

The first one. It was the best, much better than the sequels.

As for the living for eternity think it just seems like an extremely self centred fantasy. Remember that it is only an eternity of love for those who obey the priests and everybody else is promised an eternity of pain.
The whole thing as presented by the Churches seems like such a total scam, especially when I see the true concern of the religions for worldly wealth and power in the here and now.

Odd question, since by even the Bible's accounts the Christian God isn't very loving at all but actually very violent and destructive.

Don't like Mad Max movies.

Love is such a widely used word. What do you mean by love? Unselfishness? I do try to be unselfish, though I fail miserably quite a bit of the time.

I can not envision an entity that is love, that is a being, any more than I can envision intelligence as one. Sorry I can't do better with this one. My head hurts from work.

"I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh." Deut. 32:42. Yeah, feel the love.

It's not about love, that's internal agitprop, that's like Communist commissars who say they only want to spread sunshine and lollipops to the world. It's about hate, exclusion, damning everyone else to eternal torture, and ultimately proving your inability to adjust to the real world when religion disappoints by drinking the cyanide Kool-Aid.

Claims that Christians are only serving love is like a kind of selective accounting of what Christianity has wrought and is wreaking.

And my favourite Mad Max movie is of course MAD MAX BEYOND THE THUNDERDOME for its combination of stark "poxyclips" future, Blue-Lagoon spoof, cute-kid moments and the obligatory souped up cars at the end.

Don't know who Mad Max is =\

Just praising an entity that represents love is one thing, however, when that entity is exploited by people to make money and control the masses, you know you have a problem.

Good question.

I think it is absolutely their right to live their life how ever they want. If I believed in a similar being, I am sure that I would want to live my life in a manner to serve it as well.

However, it is *NOT* their right to get in my face, insult my beliefs (or lack thereof), tell me I am evil, and try to convince me to change what I believe.

Sorry, I never saw any Mad Max movies.
