Let me answer my question wrong to illustrate what I'm asking - please set me straight
There have been 4
1- a small system used on Dos and win95 and optional on win98 with 2gb max partition size
2- a larger system used on win98 and maybe me? with 30 gb max partition size
3- a different system used on early win NT with additional security feaures
4 - yet another used now on xp and maybe NT with gigantic max partition size

OK - now you know how poor my memory is - please help me out

1. FAT12 (used only for floppies, but may have been used when Windows 1.0 was booted off of floppies)
2. FAT16 (used until Windows 95c)
3. FAT32 (used until Windows ME, optional for 2000 / XP, no longer available to boot off of starting with Vista)
4. HPFS. A file format created jointly between IBM and Microsoft. Not used after Windows NT 3.1
5. NTFS. There have been several versions, each incorporating new features. Windows Vista incorporates the latest version.

3. I don't believe there was a filesystem difference between NT and XP.
4. NTFS
