Why is the name Alma important in the Book of Mormon?

My friend's name is Alma and she tells me the name is important to Mormons, but she doesn't know why.

BTW, the name is found in the Dead Sea Scrolls as well.

There are two Almas mentioned in the BoM. Alma the Elder and Alma the Younger. Obviously father and son. They were both great prophets, and I believe that Alma the Younger was Chief Judge over the Nephites. But he reliquished that position to go on missions. There are great stories about them in the book of Mosiah and (surprise surprise) the book of Alma in the Book of Mormon.
