$50 - $100 depending on what you can afford. Money is the greatest gift to give...then the couple can buy what they want or help pay the bills!!

It's not what you give, but the way you give it.
Newly Weds saw a gift marked, "Place in freezer and leave there until used."
The Card said, "There will come a time when both of you had a hard day and neither of you will feel like cooking. That is when you should use this gift."
Inside was $60 with a note saying, "Take a taxi to a nice restaurant and have a beautiful night out, just the two of you."

Some say, as a rule of thumb, whatever you think you meal costs. I don't necessarily agree with that because it's usually the bride's parents that pay for most everything. Maybe if it is a lawn reception, $30; if a big bash, $50-$100. If it were my best friend I would do everything I could do for him/her in addition to whatever I gave financially. That is more meaningful. It really depends on what you afford, too. A friend would not expect you to give $100 if you are a student; on unemployment, have a large family, etc.

Generally it is meant to be double the cost of the meal. Depending what type of reception they have you might get away with $30 up to $300 for something VERY elaborate. I don't recommend you use this method though. Don't give less than $50, but make sure it is an amount you can afford.
I generally give $100.

I give a good friend $125 to $150. Usually I will give a $100 check and a $50 item from their registry. If I'm in the wedding I usually spend $200 to $250.

Buy them something fantastic instead of giving them money.
Spend $150 changing your plane ticket to stay longer with them only to get searched by security at the airport because their wedding gift was in your carry on.
Make them spend all their money at Disney World while you hop around singing It's A Small World.
Come home with a PRICELESS album of memories.

As much as you can afford without being strapped for cash.
Depends on how close and how often I talk with the friend.

it depends on where you live... some areas are more expensive to others, so $50-75 might seem cheap.
I usually stick to $100 as a good rule and if i'm going to what i feel is an expensive wedding, i give $150-200

Typically I would say at least $50per person ($100 for a couple) if you are NOT very close. However, since they are your best friend, I would prob give more like 2-3 hundred.
