No, it is not enough. You need to learn the proper ways to form sentences and phrases. I suggest purchasing a "French for Dummies" book, or something like it. Also, watching movies in French will help you with listening to pronunciations and sentences.

I read about how in 18th Century England, people would learn French that way because they were very focused on the book method, but if you want a complete understanding of French, you'd do well to have a more rounded approach. You have to do speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises. You should listen to French people speak as much as you can every day so that it becomes more familiar and you should also read newspapers, etc. There are plenty of free resources on the internet if you search into Google. Being around French speakers would help a lot also. You'd benefit so much from being in a French speaking community, in Canada or France.

You need to listen to the language too. Find a French band or something and listen to how they pronounce things and immerse yourself in the music. I used that method for learning Japanese and I learned so much. Also I read somewhere that you have to listen to a language for a certain amount of time before it becomes familiar enough for you to really speak with with the correct pronunciation

Do you want to end up sounding as an online translator? A language is much more than just vocabulary and tenses!
Why don't you get a course? i mean... as you say things are ANY course would be good for you! There are many on the net. Or choose a podcast. Those are for free to download. At least, you'd learn pronunciation.
If you go with "your" method, you'll need a lot of time just to realize you'll need a lot of time to re-learn things.

French is a very complicated language, one i wouldn't learn myself. But if you really want to learn it, i suggest going to France or Canada, or simply hang out with a bunch of foreign exchange students from France and try to speak with them, learn your way around. It's the best way. When i went to Romania, i learned best by getting to know random people and trying to find my way around. Of course it's also best if you have a person who knows the language and english to hang around just in case.

You have to learn the proper pronunciation and you can not learn that from a book. Maybe you should get same tapes.
