smoke inside our house. Should I care? She lives about 4 hours from us. We are both in college right now, so a visit to her is out of the question. Plus, I won't stay in her stinky, cigarette/doggy poop house. My son gets sick every time we go to her house.

I kind of feel bad, because my family (my Dad quit smoking after I told him how bad it was for kids) sees us about once a month. One of the things that helped convince my Dad was seeing my son with an ear infection after a visit to my MIL's house. He went with us to the ER that night. He, his wife and my stepbrother live about 7 hours from here, but we go up there after each trip they make here. It makes me a little mad, too, because when we moved to this new house. I hurriedly got the guest room ready so she could stay. Five months later, she's never even seen our house. I guess you guys are right. I should just be happy she stays away.

It's really nice to know there are other parents who feel the same way I do about smoking around the kids. When my son was 1st born, they all laughed at me and acted like I was being silly and overprotective.

My younger son was allergic to cigarette smoke so I know what you are going through. If your MIL chooses her cigarettes over your familly, it's her issue. If she gets mad about it - oh,well! As mothers, we have to put our children and their health above everything and everyone else.

Her loss. We smoke but would never dream of smoking in a non-smokers house or car. When my father would come to visit us we would go outside to smoke even though this is our house. He had severe asthma, among other things. She is just being inconsiderate.

You should not care and you should consider yourself lucky that she wont come. Let your husband go visit her. SO SO many people gave up smoking really quickly in California like in less than a generation. I cant get over it.

No, you shouldn't care. She wants to smoke and that is against your rules. Therefore she doesn't stay with you. You don't want to stay at her house because of hygiene/cleanliness issues. Therefore you don't stay with her. That is how it is suppose to work.

If either one of you want to visit the each other then alternative arrangements must be made. (IE.- Hotel, friends, other family)

You are responsible for the health of your children. You wouldn't let them spend time in a a smokey bar, so why would you let her make your home into one. Just because she is family doesn't mean she gets to make the rules. These are your children, your home and your husband. Stick to your guns, and your rules.

I remember all the stuff she's done from your other questions. Tell her to keep her "Jerry Springer" a$$ at home, because you don't care if you ever see her again!
