I'm trying to fight off my midlife midriff, and just can't make myself go "fast-walkin'" swinging my arms back and forth. I found a hula-hoop at the store and I wanna know, other than the hazing I'm about to get, does anybody knowledgeable about exercise know if extended hula-hooping will be of any value in the calorie burning dept.? No photos, please!

Thank you all so much! I'll proceed with vim and vigor, and all of you hula-hoop fans, remind yourselves to rent and enjoy "The Hudsucker Proxy", a hilarious ficticious account about the inventor of the hula hoop, starring Tim Robbins, and Paul Newman as an excellent villan.

Calorie burning, ab toning, lower back flexibility. It's good exercise and IIRC, someone out there actually makes weighted "pro" versions that will increase the effect.

Wouldn't necessarily want to take it to the gym with you, though. :-)

Yes, it will definitely target the abs and the midsection, the places most of us put on weight. And it's much more fun than those boring sit-ups and crunches. Try "hooping" it to music. More fun than dancing! Good luck!

Yes sire, I know this one!

It will, 20 minutes a day, friend and you'll notice the difference.

Cutting back on carbs and eating more protein, is also something that aids the after 40 crowd.

Lol! Yes, and put on some good music while you're at it. Move around. Get in the zone. Make it a meditation. Your body will respond.

Sure would. Especially if you get good at it. Try it with two hoops, work your way up to eight. That oughta give your abs a workout.
