Help someone to go one more day, what would you tell him?

As I anticipated, just words

what about real testimonies? What about sharing your difficulties?

"You didn't always feel this way - feelings change, and the way you're feeling now will change too. Here, take my hand. I've been there, I'll stay with you until you're through this battle. I'll be your hope for now, until you find your own hope again."

And then I'd pray for them - silently or quietly, so as not to make them uncomfortable in any way. Emotions and spirituality are somewhat linked, but mostly independent of each other.

As long as one has breath; there is hope. This is my suggestion; I love you and I will be here for you; no matter what, and we will get through this and you will make it! I have lived through many hopeless situations in my life, but I am here to tell you I could not have made it; if it was not for having God in my life. We all have to have a purpose to live, mine was taking sight off of self and seeing what I could do for others, this gave me hope. Getting out and being with other believers also gave me some hope. Sometimes when we have so much happen in our lives, we do not have time to bounce back, until we are hit with something else. When this happens we have a chemical in our bodies that decreases and when it is low from not being able to produce fast enough, we have a chemical imbalance and then we find ourselves going into depression. Going to see a specialist to do test to see if it is a chemical imbalance, might be a suggestion; unless it is much more than what your asking or saying.

Mrscjr's answer is beautiful and very appropriate. When you're in the depths of despair, it's often hard to remember that you once felt pleasure in anything.

Depending on the person's circumstances, I would also try to get them lined up with a crisis line or a counsellor -- someone qualified to deal with persistant hopelessness. And I would make sure that they weren't left alone.

Hard to say, what tends to make me snap out of the funks is to remember that past performance doesn't guarantee future results. There's no reason for the next year to be the same as the last.

Suck it up. This is the only chance you get at life. Don't waste it by feeling sorry for yourself.

Not sure it would help, but sometimes brutal honesty is the only recourse.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world (us), that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Our hope is in the God who sent His only Son to die for us so that we could live eternally in joy.

Tell them that Jesus loves them.

That they have forever friend.

And if they count me, they have at least two friends.
