Great question and I am learning. I didnt know this came from the military, but I use it all the time. So many words we do use and have no idea of the origin of the word. We must be careful. BUt the one that said situation normal, all fouled up, says it just fine. no need to use filthy words to describe another word, no matter how it got started. It simply means that one has arrived at a place where there is suddeny a proble, hense the all fouled up. Like if you are putting something together and all is well, and suddenly yout hit a problem and cant figure it out. thats a snafu. situaton normal, all fouled up. But, if we pray< God will show us how to undo the problem. amen WE must THAT LOVE THE LORD, learn to use only the pure words of God to describe anything, no need for the devils filth. Lets take back america for God, by standing for purity. Example I didnt know till a few years ago what the filthy f word, stood for, but I read it in a book. At one time in England, ppl could only have sex with the consent of the king. when he gave it, they would hang out a sign with the inationals that stood for fornication under consent of the King. so you can see, what those letters under, of course leave the t out of it. SO when someone saw that sign, they knew it was ok, and they werent breaking the law. That is how the filthy four letter word beginning with f began. God gives us so many words to use , that we dont need to act ignorant and use all the filth the devil tosses at us, to use to tell anything. It shows a lack of intelligence, that you have no other correct English words to use to describe the situation or the problem. We were given brains by God and He expects us to use them.
So snafu is just fine, as long as you know its for situation normal, all fouled up. thats ok. and God will even show us how to fix the problem, if we ask. Great question and I learned today too Love it.

SNAFU is a military acronym (from WW2) standing for Situation Normal, All F*cked Up. It quickly made its way into civilian life for obvious reasons.
Viet Nam gave us FUBARed, for F*ucked Up Beyond All Repair.
I guess the lack of a new term coming out of Iraq must mean things are going just swimmingly over there.
